Today we’d like to introduce you to Ruthmary Paris.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started my journey of crafting once I realized I really like decorating and creating unique things. For mother’s days after the pandemic, I asked my husband to give me as a gift the Cricut machine, and since then, I have been creating. My first item, who was a hit in the moment, we’re a set of 2 shot glasses. 1 of the glasses says 1st Covid Shot, and the other says 2nd Covid shot. They were in a box accompanied with a small tequila bottle. I was living in San Antonio, Texas, so Tequila is a big thing there.
Since then, I have been doing many things, home wood decorative accents. Wreaths, buckets of flowers, Vynil on many items, decorative tiles, t-shirts, doormats, personalized wood keychain holders, and many other things.
I did many markets around the city there and created many clients doing that. Now I just Moved to Orlando, FL area and trying to know the market here to start creating for Orlando, FL costumers. Those who like unique items and gift and like to support small business knowing that we works hand to hand to create for them a unique gift or item.
I also teach Zumba in different gyms around the area (LAfitness and All-Star Dance Co in Avalon Park), so I promote my small business with my students as well.
I think my success come from the dedication I put into my creations. I have to like them like if they were for me first in order to know that others will like them as well. If I don’t fall in love for what I made I feel other will not. Having that though, so far has took me to sold the majority of my creations.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. There is months where sales are not as much as the month before. But as long you keep it simple and looking for constantly knowledge about what’s going on around in the community, events and also researching what are new things that most of the people are looking to buy and liking out there, everything should run as expected.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As a full-time job, I work for an Insurance Company since 2006. As part-time, I work teaching Zumba and Boot camp, and as my hobby, I create Crafts. I like to keep myself busy, and I think I have found very well how. I’m proud of all what I reached in so short of time with my small business. As a crafter, we all has a talent developed in different ways accord to our visions of things, and that’s what it set us apart from one to another our different minds set at the time of create.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you, and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Yes, that during the crisis of Covid, many of us realized that we all have inside of us a genuine and creative mind that will take us far if we just look into ourself and use our imagination and what we got to make great and helpful things for others in life.
