Today we’d like to introduce you to Shawna Fletcher
Hi Shawna, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was always buried in a book as a child. During the summers my grandmother would take me to the library to read as many books as possible. Language Arts was always one of my favorite subjects in grade school. As I grew into adulthood, I didn’t have much time to write until I discovered Twilight fan fiction and a wonderful group of women who encouraged me to get back into writing. I then began to work on writing an original manuscript and then life hit. I married my husband, moved to Florida, had a new job, went back to finish college and then became a mother. I barely had time in the day to do all the things necessary; definitely no time for hobbies. I soon graduated with my bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, my son was no longer attached to my hip, so I started back writing. My first novel, Pull of the Moon, was completed twelve years after I began writing it. The characters continually occupied my mind and dreams. I absolutely had to get their story out on paper. As I wrote the epic romance in Pull of the Moon, I laughed and cried. It’s truly an emotional rollercoaster.
I published Pull of the Moon in August 2023 and it has been wonderful to hear directly from readers that have been touched and moved by this love story. I wrote the novel to get the characters out of my head but the reason I published it was for others to connect to the story and believe in true love again.
In September 2024, I published my second novel titled Unseen Scars and I am now working on my third manuscript.
I currently live in Davenport, just outside of Orlando with my husband and son. We enjoy traveling and visiting the Orlando area theme parks. I continue to work in healthcare and would one day love for writing to be my full time occupation.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Of course, there are struggles such as my daily full time occupation and the challenges of balancing family time with writing.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’ve successfully published two romance novels but my current manuscript is a 1950’s thriller set in coastal Georgia.
I am most proud of publishing my second novel as it tackles some sensitive topics such as mental health and suicide. My hope is that readers understand they aren’t alone and that their life is meaningful.
I think what sets me apart is weaving characters back stories into the current timeline through flashbacks. The reader can truly feel and know who a character is.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Persistance and stubborness. I was determined to write stories that I would want to read and that made me feel something.
