Check Out Shelly Johnson’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shelly Johnson.

Hi Shelly, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In 2003, I started my career as a Real Estate Broker’s assistant in Miami, Florida and after working alongside a great Broker, I decided to get my Florida Real Estate license in 2006 as a full-time Realtor in the South Florida market. I built my business on trust, honesty and integrity, which has helped me grow over the years! After becoming a mom of two boys, my focus changed and I dedicated my time to raising my boys and then we decided to move to the Orlando area. It was hard to start over but as my boys got older, I felt ready to focus on my real estate business full time. During this time, I was able to build relationships by joining groups that included moms and professional women in the area, which has allowed me to meet great people who have helped me with building my business along with the support of my wonderful friends and family!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My journey has not been a smooth road! I’ve faced many struggles, which include losing my house in 2008, after the market crashed, and shortly after becoming a mom. As a new mom, I was unable to find the balance between motherhood and my career, so I took breaks from Real Estate until we relocated to Orlando.

There are always struggles in any field, and Real Estate in itself can have many bumps. I take pride in thinking outside the box to make sure I am serving my clients in the best way I can. Getting them where they need to be is important to me, so I go above and beyond to help them through the process. It isn’t always easy, but I have a wonderful professional community to gather information from, and that certainly helps!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’ve been a Florida Realtor for about 15 years! I love working with first-time buyers because seeing their faces when they get the keys to their first home is priceless! I have the temperament and knowledge to be alongside buyers and sellers through the real estate process and can lend a friendly, guiding hand to anyone from a first-time buyer to the most seasoned homeowner. The thing that sets me apart is my patience and dedication when working with customers. I know I’m in a sales career, but I also understand that people are making one of the biggest decisions in their lives, and for them, it may be a bit scary.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Never take anything for granted! Life is unpredictable and as long as we have compassion for others, we can get through tough times! I feel like Covid gave us all a chance to look at what really matters, and that has been a good thing for all.

Navigating through Covid in a professional atmosphere has been different. It took a while to get used to changing the way some things are handled. My customer’s health is always a top priority, so I am making sure that I take the proper precautions while in their presence.
