Today we’d like to introduce you to Sonya Stevenson.
Sonya, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am an advocate for my neighborhood as well as a proponent for access to quality healthcare and education.
I got involved in my neighborhood in 2017 when there was a random drive by shooting. At that point, I reached out to the news outlet and provided a small interview in regards to what needs to be done. I have worked with Orlando Police and other organizations to calm the crime in our area. Thanks to Chief Eric Smith and Orlando Police we were successful in our efforts . I went on to become the Neighborhood Block Captain of the Year for District 6 and I was highlighted in the Orlando Police Department newsletter. Then , channel 6 contacted me in regards to an interview and I did an interview with them about the reduction in crime in our community. Professionally, I am a cardiac nuclear medicine specialist. I have been working for over twenty years in that profession. So, being an advocate for a safe environment is important, but educating the community on the importance of taking care of your health is equally important. So, I partner up with several organizations to gather information to bring back to my community.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I have had challenges in my neighborhood. I am the neighborhood President and some of the decisions that were made in regards to the safety and aesthetics of the neighborhood did not go over well. Code enforcement performed a sweep of the entire neighborhood and gave out many tickets and violations, of course the neighbors were upset with me. But, once the neighbors realized the benefits they understood.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Currently, I work full time as a cardiac nuclear medicine specialist. I perform nuclear stress test on numerous patients with varying degrees of cardiac disease.I absolutely love ❤️ my job because it gives me a purpose. I am helping to make someone life better.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Well, I am not sure , but AI is out there , but I not sure to what degree it will impact my industry.
