Check Out Steffie Rodriguez’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Steffie Rodriguez

Hi Steffie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Born in Venezuela, my journey as a dancer began at the tender age of 8 when I fell in love with gymnastics. For two years, I poured my heart into mastering the art of movement, captivated by the grace and strength it required. In 2016, I took a bold step and moved to the United States, setting the stage for a new chapter in my dance career.

Since arriving, I’ve dedicated myself to becoming a performance-driven dancer, showcasing my passion and skills in front of large audiences. One of my most transformative experiences was joining the Freedom Dance Company, where I spent three incredible years. There, I not only refined my technique but also discovered my love for teaching. I had the privilege of mentoring over 30 dancers and creating original choreographies for our shows, sharing my knowledge and passion for dance.

My journey has also led me to exciting opportunities beyond the studio. I’ve had the chance in 2021 to perform in music videos and concerts for renowned urban artists like Jhay Cortez, Jowell & Randy, Alexis & Fido, and Lenny Tavares. The thrill of performing with a crew name “theSQUAD” that clinched first place at the World of Dance Championship Series in Atlanta in 2023, followed by a second-place finish at the national Hip Hop Championship in 2024, was a testament to our hard work and dedication, earning us international qualification.

In 2022, I embraced my versatility by dancing in the play “Don Quixote vs Bad Bunny,” where I fused contemporary and urban styles to create an exhilarating experience for the audience. My journey has been fueled by an impeccable work ethic and an undeniable love for dance.

The team that has played a pivotal role in my growth is “theSQUAD.” Their guidance has been invaluable since 2022, empowering me to evolve as a dancer. After competing in Hip Hop International in August 2024 and placing in the top 18 out of 40 worldwide teams, I auditioned for the 407 Orlando Magic Hip Hop Dance Team and was thrilled to make the cut as a passionate 20-year-old dancer. Today, I’m also proud to be an instructor at Chace Dance Company, where I can share my passion and help shape the next generation of dancers.

Each step of this journey has been incredible, and I’m excited to see where my love for dance will take me next!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The journey in dance has certainly not been a smooth road; it’s been a roller coaster of emotions and challenges. There have been moments of incredible highs, like landing a major performance or creating a piece that truly resonates with the audience, but there have also been significant lows—setbacks, injuries, and times when self-doubt crept in.

One of the biggest struggles has been learning to embrace the ups and downs. There were days when I felt like I was making progress, only to face a setback that made me question my abilities and choices. Navigating the competitive landscape of dance can be tough, and it’s easy to get caught up in comparing myself to others. However, I’ve learned that staying true to myself is essential.

Throughout this journey, my family has been my unwavering support system. Their encouragement during difficult times has been invaluable. They’ve celebrated my achievements and lifted me up when I felt discouraged, reminding me of my potential and the passion I have for dance. Their belief in me has fueled my determination and helped me push through the toughest moments.

Through it all, I’ve held onto the belief that every challenge is an opportunity for growth. I remind myself that whatever obstacles come my way are part of a greater plan. Trusting that God has a purpose for each experience, whether good or bad, keeps me grounded. It’s this faith and determination, along with the love and support of my family, that have helped me overcome every single hurdle.

Ultimately, it’s the passion for dance that fuels me, pushing me to rise above challenges and continue growing as an artist. Every twist and turn has shaped who I am today, and I wouldn’t trade those lessons for anything.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in Hip Hop dance and am known for being a former member of theSQUAD FL and now a member of the 407 with the Orlando Magic. In addition to performing, I teach Hip Hop classes on Tuesdays, continuing to spread the culture and movement I’m passionate about. What I’m most proud of is the incredible support I’ve received over the years. That support has helped me appreciate every step I’ve taken, and the journey wouldn’t have been the same without the amazing people who were part of the process.

What sets me apart from others is my commitment to blending different styles and pushing the boundaries of movement. I thrive on creativity, and I love experimenting with choreography that tells a story and resonates deeply with viewers. Ultimately, my love for dance drives everything I do, and I’m passionate about sharing that with others. Every performance is a chance to express myself, connect with the audience, and inspire others to chase their own dreams.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
Absolutely! Staying connected with the dance community is crucial for me, and I’ve found that Instagram is an invaluable resource. It helps me keep in touch with fellow dancers and instructors while also providing access to opportunities for classes, workshops, and performances. It’s amazing how the platform fosters connections and opens doors in the dance world.

In terms of resources, I truly value the knowledge and inspiration I receive from my instructors, disciplined creatives, friends, family, and directors. Their guidance and support have played a significant role in my growth, both personally and professionally. Learning from those around me helps me stay motivated and focused on my goals.

And while I love immersing myself in dance, I also believe in the power of laughter. A good comedy show can brighten any day! One of my favorites is “El Show de George Harris,” a Venezuelan culture-based comedy show that never fails to bring a smile to my face. It’s a great way to unwind and enjoy some lighthearted moments amidst the hard work.

Overall, it’s a combination of community connections, personal relationships, and a bit of humor that helps me do my best in life!
