Today we’d like to introduce you to Tai Phan.
Hi Tai, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My father and mother were born and raised in Vietnam. Like many immigrants, they moved to the U.S. in search of a better life for their families. Watching them start over from scratch, learn a completely new language, and having to acclimate to American customs, that instilled the values of dedication and sacrifice. Being the youngest of three siblings, my older sisters instilled the qualities of love, compassion, and selflessness. I’ve used these core values to motivate and push me toward my goals. I started out in retail and corporate America and moved into a career in real estate in Dallas, TX where I grew up. The passion of becoming of relator began when I bought, renovated, and sold my first home. For me, being a realtor is not just about helping people buy a big ticket item, it’s about being able to interact with clients and being a part of their journey of finding the perfect home. Purchasing a home is creating another chapter in their story of life. It’s about truly understanding what this milestone means to them. Seeing their excitement and happiness on closing day can’t be described into words what it means to me.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, absolutely not. Real estate, in general, is a very hard and competitive profession. There are hundreds of Realtors being added every day that are just as hungry as you are to get their name out there and business started. For most, it helps to have an inner circle following, like friends and family. Word-of-mouth is the best way to market yourself in this field. In 2019, I had an opportunity to move to the East Coast with my corporate America job. Shortly after I moved to Orlando, FL, I got laid off right as the Coronavirus pandemic hit. The quarantine gave me the opportunity to study and receive my Florida real estate license. However, I did not anticipate that the pandemic would put a halt on the housing market alongside not having that inner circle being in a new state. It was very stressful not being able to help contribute financially and solely having to rely on my wife. You can imagine that the amount of stress led to many nights of doubting myself, questioning my abilities, and having my confidence and self-esteem be at its all time low. There were many times I wanted to quit. However, I was reminded when my father would tirelessly work the grave shifts and would barely see his wife and kids. One night before work, he came into my room and told me, “Nothing is guaranteed in life. If you want something, you have to go and get it. Nothing is handed to you. You must write your own success story.” My core values embedded from my upbringing pushed me to keep going. Last, but not least, if it wasn’t for my amazing wife’s love, support, and sacrifices, I wouldn’t be where I am today. She understood how much this meant to me and the passion I had toward real estate. Her patience and words of encouragement got me to that finish line.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a Realtor and I help my clients sell or buy properties. I specialize in residential properties. Being a Realtor, you have to wear multiple hats: negotiator, trusted advisor, interior designer, and expert in the housing market. Based upon the reviews of my clients that I am very thankful for, I am known for being patient, understanding, and honest. I do my very best to guide my clients through every step of the process, answering any and all questions, day or night. I’m more than willing to go beyond my professional requirements in helping my clients with any logistics they need assistance with. I’m happy it shows that I care deeply about my work. Purchasing or selling a home can be a very stressful and chaotic journey. From selling their homes thousands of dollars over asking to buying homes under market value, the proudest moments I’ve had are when my clients have crossed the finish line and are 100% happy and confident with their decision. What sets me apart from others is that I like to challenge my clients. I don’t ask the standard buying or selling requirements. I ask thought provoking questions, such as “Will this house match your lifestyle for the next 5-10 years and will it remain functional?” I want my clients to get exactly what their looking for, not just in the now, but for the future.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Going back to what my father said, “Nothing is guaranteed in life. If you want something, you have to go and get it. Nothing is handed to you. You must write your own success story.” That will always be my advice to anyone who wants to succeed in anything in life. If your goal is to become successful in the real estate business, you have to have patience, motivation, and dedication. Let passion drive you to keep going. In this business, it’s all about knowledge. “Sometimes you win, sometimes you learn.” -John C. Maxwell.
