Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Bennett.
Taylor, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hi everyone, I’m Taylor and I’m the face behind Iced by Taylor Bakery! I’m 26, happily married and mom of beautiful twin girls. I was raised right here in Kissimmee, Florida, where you can find me baking delicious cakes, cupcakes, pastries and more seven days a week! Being a mom of two little ones, baking delicious sweets for the holidays and special occasions has always been a fun hobby; however, last year, I took my chances and took the leap of turning my hobby into a business.
Last August, the pandemic had started a few months before and things with finances were up the air. We weren’t sure what was going to happen with our jobs and with a family; we tried to save as much as possible like many others did to get through the year. Instead of buying my daughters’ birthday cake and treats, I decided to make them myself and to everyone’s surprise, they came out better than expected. We joked around about me opening a bakery and as I thought about it more and more, it seemed like the perfect thing to do! I’ve always been passionate about helping people and being able to make someone else’s day and creating edible art for their birthdays, weddings, anniversaries or just a sweet tooth fulfills me so much! I started my home bakery, Iced by Taylor in late August 2020 by doing cupcakes sales and custom cupcake orders on the weekends as I was still working full time.
In April of 2021, I finally quit my full-time job to be able to focus on my business and give it all of my attention. Here we are, almost a year later and I have expanded my skill and menu more than I ever could’ve imagined and definitely found my niche. Iced by Taylor specializes in textured buttercream cakes and bespoke cupcakes and have perfected a ton of add-on treats such as decorated strawberries, donuts and more! Our customers have turned into family and I hope you will too! I am so excited for this journey and growth and can’t wait to keep baking the world a better place!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When starting a business, you’re always going to encounter some obstacles but that’s what makes you stronger and gives you experience! One of my biggest obstacles that I had to overcome when I started my business was wanting to offer so many different things at once to cater to everyone, however, I very quickly realized that taking my time and perfecting each individual item on my menu one by one is much more important. Rome wasn’t built in a day. So, I took my time and practiced and practiced. Each of our items on our menu are baked with so much love and if we don’t make something that you’re looking for, we’ve made amazing connections with other small businesses in the local baking community so that we can all work together to make your dreams come to life!

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My best advice to give someone just starting their business is to never give up. It’s not going to be easy. There will be long nights and early mornings. There will be a lot of sacrifices made but in the end, it will all be worth it if you keep going and always remember why you started. Make sure that you are doing something that you truly love and are passionate about it and it will never feel like work!
