Today we’d like to introduce you to TK Lawyer
Hi TK, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I never wanted to become a writer.
Honestly, I never considered writing a profession. I thought it was more of a hobby. Something people did on the side for amusement and some side money. Yet, I never considered writing a true job, so it was not something I pursued in my educational studies.
However, when I found myself at a stalemate in a dead-end job and I could feel the passion within me just draining out of me, I knew I needed something more in life. I needed something that was sorely lacking. All of a sudden, ideas for stories started popping up into my head- at all hours of the night and at any time of day. I would get streams of ideas while driving in the car, while trying to go to sleep, while exercising and while I was showering. They came at me non-stop, and it became crazy, so I started writing them down.
The funny part is, I never went back to those ideas. They stayed written on random pieces of paper, but it did get me writing my thoughts down and then I started creating novels.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No. My writing career has been more of a rollercoaster than a smooth shot to success. Yet, I think most writers experience this. It is far from the norm when a writer becomes an over-night success with their first book. Still, it is the enthusiasm and love of my readers that keeps me going. I am always meeting new fans and readers at events that I go to.
I think I have had the usual struggles with finding a good personal assistant. After ten years and several attempts to get someone who thinks the same way as I do, loves my work and wants me to be known to everyone, I still have not found one person that can do everything I need so I continue to do my own marketing with some help from others.
I have had good experiences and bad experiences when it has come to finding a PA, trying to get someone to create a website for me, to even finding a good traditional publisher that won’t put most of the money you earned in their pockets.
I think most authors go through good and bad, learning what works for them and what doesn’t and who to trust and not trust along the way. As in most professions, there are scammers in the author world, and one has to be aware and on alert.
Still, the one thing that keeps me going is my readers. The love and passion they have for me and my work keeps me going. Writing a book is not easy and when a reader tells you they loved what you wrote- wow- that is just the best feeling ever!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I write steamy paranormal and contemporary romance. My books have won awards, and I am an International Bestselling author. I am truly honored to have this title. It took many years to achieve it. I am also proud of my readers and fans.
I write steamy romance with realism. My angelic and shape shifter worlds are not beyond an imaginative minds’ reach. They are not so far-fetched that one cannot relate to the world that I am creating. I also like to add relatable characters into my books. Characters that you will root for through their trials and tribulations.
My contemporary romance are concepts that I thought of that are unique and I wanted to write about. I don’t write about just anything. When I come up with a story, I want to come up with something unusual or different and explore that concept. That is what is truly different about my books. I like to open reader’s minds. and show them a different perspective.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
The term success is a broad word that, once applied to a human being, becomes extremely personal. Everyone’s definition of success is different.
For me, success is being able to wake up in the morning and take a breath when there are so many out there who can’t do that on their own and need oxygen tanks in order to breathe. Any little thing can define one’s success. The ability to walk is another. So many can’t walk on their own and I love having the mobility and freedom to do what I need to do.
With my career, success is having readers that love my work. Yet, even if I had no readers, the fact that I wrote a book is a success in itself. I hear from people all the time how they are in awe that I even wrote a book because they can’t see themselves doing the same. Success is what you define it. Every one of us has something to brag about when it comes to success.
