Today we’d like to introduce you to Tone I.E.
Hi Tone, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up singing in church, in choir, the worship team, like many other artists I know. But I come from a line of talent as well. Both of my parents are musically talented. My dad was a rapper back in the day as well as a songwriter/ghostwriter, and my mother’s side of the family are full of singers, so I was kinda given the best of both sides.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Definitely not smooth; while there have been quite a few things that work in my favor, my main struggles are choosing the right people to work with. A lot of times, people don’t have your best interest at heart, only what they can get out of you, and that’s pretty messed up because all I want to do is live life and make music without having to take shady steps to get there. I know people often say you can’t do things alone, but I’ve found sometimes it’s better for me to move that way. I spent a lot of my childhood lonely, whether it was by choice or force but either way, I’ve learned what works best for me, and having others trying to take advantage of me is definitely not on that list lol.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I wear many hats. I’m a singer, songwriter, rapper, poet, and a musician. I play keys, But I’m most known for my singing and writing. I think what I’m most proud of is my writing. What sets me apart from others, I believe is how much other artists love singing my music. For example, I had a show recently where I performed my song “Distraction,” and one of the other artists on the bill came up and reprised the song with the house band, and I honestly started crying. I take a lot of pride in my writing, and it brings everything into perspective when I hear someone else singing something I wrote and tell me how much they love it.
