Hi Valerie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
My journey to real estate began as a child. My mother ensured that our home felt family focused and comfortable. My father instilled organization, discipline, and perseverance within our home. My parents had hopes for homeownership but did not venture into this area until later in their adult lives. As I learned more about real estate from visiting and watching their close friends who were investors in Central & South Florida, I began to understand the financial & emotional rewards as well as. My interest was piqued by real estate, I pursued a professional career in healthcare management. I attended Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, FL and obtained both Bachelor of Science and Master of Health Administration degrees. My managerial career in physician practice management was successful at a cost to my family stability. As my desire to transition into a career with both rewards and flexibility developed as my personal life flourished. During my managerial career I was married and began a family. During the height of my career our family continued to grow; unexpectedly with a fourth child. As career focused and determined as I was, I needed to slow down and focus on my family. Our 3 children at the time were in preschool and public school. With the 4th addition on the way I began evaluating how to successfully achieve my goals and manage a 6-member family. While placing my corporate ego aside, I opened my thoughts to the possibility of sharing my knowledge, skills, and strategies I learned in healthcare towards a career that would allow me to have flexibility with working & my children, Elementary education! Working within the educational system was a perfect opportunity for me. I decided to take my talents to the education field. As a manager, teaching and guiding others is a foundational aspect.
As our children matriculated from preschool to public school my desire to pursue real estate became a clear goal. In 2021 my goals became a reality when changes to the staffing model for my employer did not improve. As I questioned this disappointment along with all the other fears of COVID19, the door to real estate was staring me in my face!! I decided to obtain my real estate license and enrolled into school that day. I obtained my real estate license and joined a phenomenal team with Preferred Real Estate Brokers and have learned a lot about this new career.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Transitioning into real estate during a pandemic is challenging as a new realtor. The current market is saturated with buyers and not enough sellers to meet demands for homes. This presents a unique challenge that also provides valuable learning opportunities for me and my clients. All my clients currently are buyers. To combat this challenge my buyers and I work together to develop a concise plan that focuses on properties with non-negotiable features and a strong offer position.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I have always enjoyed art and interior design. I am a visionary who plans and creates in my mind. It brings me joy to plan an experience or design a space with the anticipation of others enjoying the result as a hobby. Real estate gives me the opportunity to share those skills with my clients. While in my career of healthcare I was known for and most proud of successfully optimizing business operations and employee engagement. I understand the importance of smooth and consistent communication followed by actions that gain trust and showcase respect for your clients. All these aspects form who I am as a person and how I would like to be treated as well.
