Today we’d like to introduce you to Xine Hann
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Art & Desi is a mom and pop design and installation team, focusing on small business signage, logos, event banners, standees, decals and performance car graphics.
The owner, Adil Abrahim, has been working as a graphic designer and installer since 2000- known at that time as Designability2000. Xine joined him in 2013, and Designability became Art & Desi.
We pride ourselves in pushing our artistic talents to the forefront of our designing process.
Though still a modest mom and pop sign shop, we have grown in our community as sponsors of local charity organizations and event organizers. We are thankful for the support our town has shown us, and we gladly give back when we can.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s not always smooth sailing. Like many small businesses during Covid- we almost had to call it quits. Because we rely on the growth of small businesses and racing events for our success, when everything shut down we found ourselves without work. No races or competitions meant no car graphics and no merch. Small businesses closing their doors and lack of growth meant no reason for signage. It was a hard couple years, but we’ve slowly reestablished our relationships with past clients, and made new connections through word of mouth throughout the community.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are both strong storytellers using imagery.
I studied the pictorial turn of literature in college (storytelling through images and symbols), and Adil has an inherent ability- an art he started cultivating as a young child. Between the two of us, we can create powerful graphics that communicate what your brand is, and sets your storefront or vehicle apart from the competition.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Risk taking is pretty necessary for the growth of any business. Once you hit a plateau, if you’re ambitious, you seek new avenues and tools to take you further.
We have, and always will, take certain risks. We have signed up for events to work as a pop-up that have not worked out in our favor. We have tried new products and tools that have proved to be ineffective. It’s just the nature of business.
I will say, for every misstep, there have been more successes. Growing through what we go through is how we keep getting stronger.
