Today we’d like to introduce you to Prisila Coreano.
Hi Prisila, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
It’s actually a funny story. During Highschool, I wanted to be a fashion designer. I had always tried my best to dress up nice in school and then I ended up HATING sewing! hah! I actually then took up a career in graphic design, which my parents are both graphic designers and I kind of just fell into it, then realized I don’t want to sit behind the computer for the rest of my life. My love for hair and makeup had always been there. I never saw it as a career, just a hobby. I started doing my research and found Paul Mitchell, the School Orlando and quickly enrolled. Ten months later, I graduated and passed my Stateboard test. Officially licensed, worked in a couple of salons but felt like something was missing. I was introduced to the world of Productions & Weddings and thought, this is what’s been missing! This is what I need! Fast forward to today, I’ve worked in the beauty industry for the last 10yrs providing hair & makeup services locally, in Orlando, FL and traveling abroad.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
With every career, there are always obstacles to go over. Everyone in the beauty industry shows you the great things but never talk about the ugly. The reality is, we struggle. It’s an industry that is extremely saturated. I’ve had opportunities given and taken away as a result of cattiness. A lot of individuals feel that it’s a competition but there is plenty of work for everyone, you just have to hustle and find it. I know for myself in the beginning I worked freelance weddings & 10-12hr production days, worked at MAC Cosmetics store in the mall & a hair salon to get by. My concealer couldn’t even cover the bags and dark circles under my eyes! I’ve had my fair share of self-doubt thinking, “Is this what I’m supposed to be doing?” As crazy as all this sounds, yes, it’s worth pushing through.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
What sets me apart from others is that I am what a lot of people call a “Hybrid Artist.” I do both Hairstyling & Makeup Artistry. A lot of individuals in our industry only does one or the other, not many do both. I perfected my craft in Airbrush makeup, hairstyling from down to updos and editorial. I’ve worked with many local talented Individuals but I’m most proud of working with a range of celebrities & professional players, as well as magazine/website publications and awesome networks such as Disney Channel, Salut Bonjour, Univision, ESPN, NBC Universal Golf Channel & more! My attention to detail and creativity shows through my brushes.
How do you define success?
It’s true what they say. Success to me is, when you love what you do, you never work a day in your life.
