Hi Trina, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I am 33 years old. I am married to an amazing man named Noore. I also have an 11 years old cat named Kitty and a one-year old husky name Mishka. Professionally I have been a hairstylist for 10 years. I opened a hair salon in college park 3 years ago. I went to school for architecture. During my college I decided to get my cosmetology license because I always love working on hair and I figured this will pay my bills. Soon I realized that being a hairstylist is my true calling and since then this salon is my life. I am a passionate hairstylist. Making people look and feel good is my passion but my obsession is now being an entrepreneur. I enjoy running a business and I learn something new every day. I am learning about leadership where I influence and train other stylists. I believe my success comes from my stylist’s success. I am constantly planning ways to motivate my stylists. Beside leadership another most important area I focus on is marketing. Hair salon is all about showcasing the work. I love creating a brand and finding ways to market. Besides all the love for my career I also feel overwhelmed sometimes. I see how competitive the salon industry is. Those stressful times I focus on a holistic method to center myself, regain my motivation and energy. Meditation, Feng shui are all right on my ally. I am originally from Bangladesh. I came to the United States at the age of 18 with my parents. Talk about a culture shock. With my broken English I found my way to survive in this society. My father was a pharmacist in Bangladesh and my mother was a teacher. Even though we were blessed to live a good life in Bangladesh my parents moved to USA to give me and my brother a better life. My parents could not have the same career so they decided to buy a small convenient store in Orlando, Florida. They worked really hard to provide for us. My mother passed away from breast cancer when I was 22. Then on a tragic accident my father passed away when I was 27. I worked really hard to be where I am today. Of course, every day I try to be a better person than yesterday. I am humbled for the things I have now. I realized life can change in the blink of an eye and I try to make the best out of every day.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I definitely faced some trouble when I opened my hair salon. One of the hardest things I faced when I was working with a contractor to build this salon. I was young and a single girl. I was constantly put down by this contractor. I had to fire him and hired a new company to complete the job. It was one of the stressful things I went through when I opened the salon. I kept telling myself ” If I can face this, I can face anything”. Hair salon is a competitive industry and there are many really good hair stylists and big salons in central Florida. I definitely feel pressure to compete with all the big salons. I try to channel my energy to abundance. There are plenty of clients for all of us. As long as I can do proper marketing, I believe clients will see the service we provide.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in a technique called Balayage. Balayage is a free hand painting technique where we use bleach to paint the hair first and then color it with the desired tone. This gives hair a natural look vs highlights or any other coloring techniques. Balayage is now a well known service offered in almost all the salons. I specialized in balayage 5 years ago when this technique just came out. I realized very quickly that this technique will create a revolution to the hair industry, so I wanted to learn and practice this as much as I could. By doing Balayage for so many years this definitely gives me an advantage in this industry. Where many stylists are just learning about this technique, I mastered the technique already and I teach all my stylists the tips and tricks of Balayage. This definitely set us apart from all other hair salons.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up I was the black sheep of the family. I grew up in a conservative family but I manage to get in trouble all the time. My mother always said I am too brave. Where all my family members decided to go to school, get a degree and get a stable job, I decided to quit school and pursue my passion. Growing up I was always a class lead. I am outgoing and not afraid to try new things. I can see how my personality is a perfect fit to be an entrepreneur.
