Check Out Victor Wright’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Victor Wright.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Our story is about our son Victor Wright. Victor is a senior at West Orange High School. He was diagnosed at the age of five with autism and ADHD. Over the next five years, we dedicate our life to find out what we can do to help our son. At a young age his sensory sensitivity was so overwilling, we could not take him out to birthday parties, church, restaurants, sports events without him having a total meltdown. We got him involved in having speech therapy three times per week, occupational therapy and put him in a specific school for his conditions.

Twice per year for New Years’ and July 4th was the worst day of the year, because of the fireworks. When Victor turned 12, he started to come out of his shell and had much more confidence. The NHS from West Orange High School started tutoring him while he was still in middle school. In 2017 we were introduced to the Special Olympics’ of Florida. Victor has always loved the water and was a good swimmer. His very first year he took first place in freestyle swimming and bowling. He won a medal in the state games and has earned a spot on the WOHS swim team, where he just earned his letter in swimming. He now trains at the NTC in Clermont to hopefully earn a spot on the 2022 USA World Games to be held in Orlando, Florida. Victor’s friendly, outgoing, positive attitude has inspired many around the US. His new logo is “Team Victor No Limits” We don’t look at disabilities, we focus on Abilities. Sports companies are not looking at Victor as the “Kid with the Look”.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The obstacles and challenges along for him were not being included. Not to be invited to birthday parties, events, sleepovers etc. like any other kid. We didn’t have the resources or many others to lean on as parents to support one another. He just wanted to be another kid and fit in.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
Victor is celebrating his senior year, and he has signed up for a two-year job training program through Orange County School.

What makes you happy?
Victor is very happy when he is with his teammates at West Orange High School and Special Olympics of Orange County. He loves attending Youth Group at Mosaic Church of Winter Garden. He is known as the most popular kid in Winter Garden. He is the happy kid walking around two or three times per week. His friends and support range from students, City Commissioners, the Mayor of Winter Garden, and business owners from downtown.
