Today we’d like to introduce you to Aliana Guerre
Aliana, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Aliana Guerre and I am the founder of Sanford Candles. I am a second year college student. It was this past summer, my first summer back home after college, that Sanford Candles was born. After being away from home I wanted to create something special that encompassed the warm feeling of home that everyone could enjoy. What better to bring warmth into you space then a beautiful handcrafted scented candle! So my little sister and I got to work and we developed our small business: Sanford Candles. Sanford Candles is a candle company and we sell handcrafted candles with scents inspired by different aspects of Sanford, FL. The process of developing Sanford Candles has been a such an incredible and rewarding experience. From the creative side of designing a logo and developing the scent notes of each candle, to the entrepreneurial side of marketing and attending local farmers market. As young entrepreneurs, my sister and I hope to inspire other young people to start a business and get involved in their communities.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Like starting any new endeavor, bumps and learning curves are bound to occur. In the beginning of learning how to make our handcrafted soy candles we faced technical problems. Problems such as an un-smooth wax surface and too little scent. But with experimentation and perseverance we were able to develop a process and a formula that results in a beautiful finished product that smells amazing and lasts for 50-70 hours.
As you know, we’re big fans of Sanford Candles. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Sanford Candles represents community, home, and taking a second to appreciate the little moments in life. We created Sanford Candles to honor the town we grew up in. We wanted to capture the beauty that we recognize in our community. For example, our Waterfront Breeze candle is inspired by the Downtown Sanford Marina and our Magnolia Square candle is inspired by Magnolia Square in Downtown Sanford. When you light a Sanford Candle we want you to enjoy the vibrant scents, embrace the feeling of relaxation, and remember to be inspired by the beauty that exists around you.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I believe the candle industry will continue to grow with the influence of social media. Social media has allowed our business to reach new customers and stay connected with existing customers.
