Today we’d like to introduce you to Allie Newell.
Hi Allie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was a career fireman that got bored with the same workout routine. Through classes and practice I came to find the theology of CrossFit applied to every aspect of my physical and mental needs as a paid fireman. It trained endurance, strength, power, flexibility, accuracy, and coordination. It forced me into an environment with like minded people that inadvertently pushed back my attraction to isolation and depression. The desire to improve health perform well finally motivated me to quit smoking. That was 17 years ago. No I have my own CrossFit gym 15 years strong, Train and help hundreds of other people to the same path. My training and clientele have changed thought the methodology and workouts are still the same. The adaptability is infinite. Now retired from the Fire department I use CrossFit to stay in shape so I am an asset to my family not a burden. I can go do a 5k anytime one of my friends wants to. 5 mile hike? Lets go, Rock climb in West Va. for 10 days? See you there. I am not limited by my fitness. I can devote my time and energy to experiences not fighting off pathological illness.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I actually got really caught up in people pleasing. We lost sight of what we were actually trying to accomplish. We have since started talking to our favorite members, the ones that bring butterflies and unicorns to the gym. We asked what they like most. When we stopped chasing the complaints of the squeaky wheels, or trying to adapt to what we though the mob out side would want, our lives got more focused. We now give the best possible experience to the people that have had the courage to come in! It is the best hour of your day when you come to see us. Even though you are suffering through a workout!
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We specialize in functional fitness. We demonstrate and reinforce proper movement. We do this in different intensities and keep a critical focus on detail of the movement. Good reps are way more important than many reps. We are particularly good at Olympic weightlifting. It is the most technical movement CrossFit offers and we have put 3 separate lifters into the world championships. We also specialize in running from. It is the most repeated movement in CrossFit. With the 2 biggest modalities as our specialties we feel we give a safe and valuable base to show how to stay active and involved in life.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
Rockledge is amazing as it has no real downtown. We are here to just be chill and do our thing. The worst part is we have no downtown. There is no little village or central area where we can all be drawn to gather.
