Community Highlights: Meet Anthony Marques of The Kubert School

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Marques.

Hi Anthony, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi Everyone! I’m Anthony Marques and I’ve always enjoyed writing and drawing superheroes from the time I was a young boy until now. It’s always brought me great joy to sit down with an empty piece of paper and fill it up with characters and worlds that jumped out in my head. As I got older, I realized that I could do this as a profession, so I decided to go to The Kubert School, which is known for being THE school for cartooning and graphic art.

While I was there, I made life-long friends and upon graduation went on to work at DC Comics and Dynamite Entertainment as an editor and artist on characters such as Green Hornet, Red Sonja, Superman, and Batman. In addition to working on numerous projects with these companies, I became an instructor at The Kubert School before eventually becoming the new owner and president of the school. There I work with instructors to usher in the next generation of comic book creators.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
COVID presented an unforeseen hurdle but also yielded a new opportunity in the school’s technology and in our ability to reach more students around the world. The same accredited education and experience that we have always offered to our students, can now be done remotely. We were also able to create our Online Studies program. These classes are open to the general public and is a great way to hone your skills and knowledge as a cartoonist while allowing you to learn at your own pace.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At the Kubert School, we are extremely passionate about providing students with a truly personalized education, one that stretches the limits of their talents and potential.

With a specialization in Cartoon and Graphic Art, the graduating student leaves the school with a developed understanding and an enlarged imagination stirred by an established work ethic, with the passion and drive to be an artist for years to come.

In addition to our accredited full-time program, we also offer The Kubert School Summer Intensive in Orlando, Florida. The Summer Intensive utilizes tried and true methods so students will be left with a better understanding and knowledge to aid in their ability to create professional-level work. Students will receive in-depth experience in basic drawing, narrative art, inking, and portfolio creation. In the intensive, they will learn and practice the skills necessary to build their portfolios under the guidance of top working professionals such as Lee Weeks, Klaus Janson, and Joe Prado.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you, or support you?
