Five years ago, I emigrated to this country with my husband and son, facing the challenges that many immigrants experience when they arrive. I started working as a housekeeper in vacation homes, putting in the effort every day to build a better life for my family. Over time, I realized that I wanted to start my own business again, and I decided to pursue my passion for jewelry.
At first, I was very scared because I was starting from scratch and no one knew me. However, one day, I received a message from a woman I follow who had gone through a similar experience and is now very successful in her business. That message was the inspiration I needed to take the first step. I decided to launch my own jewelry business, and although it hasn’t been easy, little by little, I’ve been gaining visibility on social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook. Today, I look back and feel proud of what I’ve achieved and excited for what’s to come.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it definitely hasn’t been an easy journey. Every business venture involves a step-by-step process, and nothing happens overnight. I think one of my biggest challenges was leaving fear behind. Starting from scratch in a new place means facing the unknown, and often, you can become your own biggest obstacle. When starting a business or venture, we put many “no’s” in our path; we tell ourselves that we’re not ready, that it’s not the right time, or that it might not work. This mindset, full of doubts and “no’s,” creates fear and can hold us back from moving forward.
Overcoming those thoughts and daring to take the first step was crucial for me. In the end, I realized that, even though the fear was there, I couldn’t let it stop me from pursuing my dreams.
