BRANDI, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hello! My name is Brandi Sifuentes and I am the proud owner of The Wax Place located in Sanford, FL. I am a firm believer that this world holds abundance for all that seek it and take the risk. Sure it will be hard, but what doesn’t challenge you doesn’t change you.
Growing up I never had much. We lived off welfare and my mom was a single mom that sold drugs up until my 4th grade year. We were the family that got toys from Toys for Tots in black trash bags that weren’t wrapped. Nonetheless, we were grateful and happy. My grandparents raised me a lot of the time. They showed me a great example of love, dedication, and resilience.
By the age of 16, I had my first child and by the age of 18 had my second. Here I was, a part of a statistic, but I never let that define me. I finished high school and some college while raising my two children. The hustle and survival mode is something I’ll never take for granted because it led me to where I’m at today and has taught me many beautiful lessons along the way.
At 26 I got my license to be an Esthetician and moved here to Florida to provide a better life for my kids. That’s when the magic happened! I worked for a waxing chain for two years until I outgrew the skill and knowledge they had to offer me. In 2019 I took the leap of faith and started my own business called Brandi With An Eye and rented a small 150sq foot room. I was a solo esthetician for about 4 years providing full body waxing and lash extensions. I was even waxing from my house after my third baby in 2021 during my maternity leave. I was determined to make my business work and nothing was standing in my way!
In April 2023, I took an even bigger leap of faith right after marrying the love of my life of 11 years and opened a 2,500sq foot store front. I rebranded into The Wax Place and hired my first W-2 employees all with the help of my husband. My husband is my numbers guy, my HR coordinator, and continues to be my biggest support system and a huge part of my success in business. “Thanks Babe!”
Today I have a five-star rated non-judgmental body-positive waxing salon with an all-star team! We are now in the business of helping women gain confidence with smooth skin, bringing solutions for problematic pubic skin. We specialize in hard wax and most of our popular services, like Brazilian and bikini waxes, only take 15 minutes. In conjunction with my salon, I also teach business-building tips and tricks and advanced wax techniques to licensed Estheticians. I am currently working on creating one of the most innovative hard waxes that will be the first of its kind on the market.
Everyday I’m learning new things about marketing and business. There are things along the way I have failed but took a lesson from. I know my learning will never stop and I am grateful and proud of how far I have come,
For the future entrepreneurs in the beauty industry, be sure to allow yourself the permission to “Be-Do-Have” your aspirations. Allow yourself the permission of abundance and remember we are not each other’s competition. You are worthy, you are strong, and you can be anything you set your mind to.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road has not been smooth. The initial struggle that I faced was gaining clientele. I didn’t really know anyone here in FL so I had to find innovative ways to get people to try my services. I knew once they tried them they would love my personality and skill.
One of my biggest challenges was when I wanted to quit the waxing chain I was working for to start my own business. They had a non-compete. So when I very first started to transition and was working both places, I had to learn a new skill which was lash extensions because I wasn’t allowed to wax while working at the chain. So once I finally got enough clients that did lashes, I fully quit the waxing chain and was finally able to provide what I was really good at and that’s waxing.
When COVID happened, I had to close down for 2 whole months! I took that time to create educational videos on IG and when I came back I was the busiest I had ever been!

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Yes, I have learned that this business will never go away because even in the midst of covid people wanted to wax. lol
One vary important thing I have learned is that we as humans need and desire human interaction. We want to feel heard, we want to be hugged. The social distance thing really f****d us up and its so important now more than ever to love your neighbor because it goes a long way.
That’s why in our treatment rooms we laugh, cry, hug and overshare with our guest.
There have been countless times someone has been spread egal, mid wax and has broken down crying over something happening in their life and I have stopped and just hugged them. Then we laugh and I pull the labia strip off lol
