Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittani Johnson.
Hi Brittani, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
As a teenager, I was obsessed with the unique profiles on BlackPlanet.com. Determined to figure out how the magic happened, I dove into research, transforming myself from a curious observer to a self-taught graphic and website designer. As an adult, I channeled my skills into crafting impactful designs for my church, igniting a passion for helping others visually communicate their message. Eventually, some of the business owners within the church started approaching me with various design projects. I started to ramp up and decided that I should start a business. I began Bee Designs, LLC in 2015. But there was a problem – I was a shy introvert and rarely spoke up about my business. While my design skills flourished, my introverted nature kept me hidden. I would miss opportunities because people were unaware of my service offerings and capabilities. I’m a marketer by trade, so I have to credit marketing for helping me to talk to people gradually. But a friend’s golden nugget of wisdom changed everything: ‘Britt, you need to be just as comfortable in the foreground as you are in the background.’ That was my turning point. I realized I couldn’t hide my talent anymore. It’s changed my trajectory within my personal life and in business. Fast-forward to today, Brand With Britt empowers women entrepreneurs to showcase their greatness. I understand the struggles of being an entrepreneur, especially the introverted kind or for those who dim their lights. I’m here to bridge the gap to help women display their brand boldly and authentically.
Would it have been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been a challenging road. The biggest struggle has been me! For years, shyness and imposter syndrome kept me quiet about my business. I’d constantly hear things like, ‘Brittani if I knew you did logo design, I would’ve hired you!’ or ‘I would’ve had you design my website.’ Ultimately, I realized I had to overcome my fear and step into the spotlight. It wasn’t easy, but I leaned into the fear and focused on the positive impact I could have on other women entrepreneurs. It made all the difference. Now, I see the results of that shift – a thriving business and the joy of helping others shine!
Thanks for sharing that. Please tell us more about your business.
Brand With Britt helps small businesses (primarily led by women of color) unlock their full potential by crafting strong brand identities. I specialize in graphic design, website design, and content creation. I work closely with clients to understand their goals, values, and audience. This allows me to develop a compelling brand design that resonates with their ideal customers.
What truly sets me apart is my marketer’s lens and storytelling. A strong brand isn’t just about visuals; it’s about crafting a brand narrative that connects authentically with your audience. Through design and content creation, I help businesses weave this narrative into all aspects of their brand experience. I’m proud to support the growth of business owners who look like me through design. The dollar leaves black communities far too quickly. I’m passionate about using my design services to empower Black businesses. A strong brand can become a legacy, building wealth and strengthening our communities for generations.
It’s not about me just creating a pretty logo or website. I’m a partner for brands in crafting a unique brand voice that tells their story and connects with their audience on a deeper and more meaningful level. A powerful brand identity is the foundation for lasting success, and I’m here to help you achieve it!
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
As a creative entrepreneur, Orlando always provides unique things to do. The city has a strong network of passionate people, and the resources available are perfect for connecting and collaborating. As a foodie, Orlando’s diverse culinary scene never disappoints – there’s something delicious for every taste bud! One thing that can be tricky is navigating traffic. As an Orlando native, I see a lot of positivity from Orlando’s growth, but managing congestion can be a challenge.
