Today we’d like to introduce you to Caleb Figueroa
Hi Caleb, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
The story that began my business is one that took place the moment I picked up a musical instrument. I grew up in a family of six brothers and sisters and every single one, but the youngest was musically inclined. From playing in recitals to playing every weekend at church music was just a part of my DNA and culture. All through throughout middle and high school I only cared about playing music. After I graduated high school I began to give music lessons on the side as a part-time hustle. Nine years later that part-time hustle became a full-time job that has allowed me the opportunity to give over 50 music lessons a week and focus more time to being a music producer earning an income greater than the average college graduate. It has to be the most fulfilling part of teaching students is seeing their growth and where they end up. At only the age of 27 I have seen some of my students become lead musicians in their churches, excel in school, recitals, and play any song that they desire. With the privilege of being an entrepreneur, I get to have the flexibility to spend more time with my daughter and also financially provide so that my wife can be a stay home mom.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I believe almost any entrepreneur. Will say that it has definitely never been a smooth road. The moment you go full-time into your business is the moment you say you believe in yourself. We grow up believing that we need to have a 9-5 steady job, and maybe some people can do that, but there’s nothing more liberating and fulfilling than controlling your own future. I would say some of the biggest struggles would be to simply find clients and find work overall. While I was building the business, I was working as a manager for a delivering company, and sometimes there would be nights that I would only sleep around four hours. When you’re building the business, it starts off as something you do on the side of your main job and then eventually you take the leap of faith and quit your job to focus 100% on the business. Quitting that job as a manager that I had worked at for seven years Was one of the scariest things I ever did. But the moment I quit, I never look back and I thank God and my wife for supporting me 100% of the way
We’ve been impressed with Caleb Figueroa Music, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My name is Caleb Figueroa and I’m a private music teacher as well as a music producer. My specialties as a private music teacher are instructing piano, guitar, and drums. My specialties as a music producer are scaling, full arrangements, audio, engineering, recording sessions, and mixing musical productions.
I believe what sets me apart is that I’m both a music teacher and music producer. As a music teacher, I’m always having to grow and improve for my students. That comes in many ways such as practicing more as a musician. The way that benefits my music production clients is that I’m able to bring new, fresh, high quality, musical arrangements, and productions. Constantly spending time day and night working in the music industry keeps me relevant in many genres of music.
I’m proud of the balance. I’ve been able to keep in the two separate jobs. I’ve had the opportunity as a music producer to work with prominent local Christian artists as well as create content on my own social media pages that showcase what I can do. As a music teacher as I mentioned before I provide lessons to over 50 students a week from the ages of three all the way up to 80 years old. The genres that I teach range from jazz, pop, classical, blues, etc..
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Risktaking will always lead to high rewards. The bigger, the risk the higher the reward. Music is such a competitive industry as it is the only people that become successful are the ones that can’t live without it. When you can’t live without it, it’s not a risk it’s a means of survival. And when you wanna survive, you’ll do whatever it takes. When it comes to taking risk, you have to be hungry, ambitious, and relentless to make your dreams and two goals.
