Today we’d like to introduce you to Charlene G.
Hi Charlene, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Both my husband and I are black millennials and we both grew up in a home with divorced parents. Growing up, we didn’t see many examples of long-lasting black marriages. Many of the portrayals in media were of broken homes and marriages. Throughout my journey of marriage, I’ve had to address my bad communication habits and trust issues that stemmed from before marriage. After ten years of focusing on my personal growth journey, I’ve wanted to open up and share my life so that others can have a realistic “non-fantasy” perspective of marriage. So, I started chatwithcharli as a creative way to share my life with others in hopes that I can provide a healthy portrayal of a black marriage.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
One of the most challenging aspects of being a businesswoman is balancing my home and business life. Being married with two sons and managing an online business is not always easy. I try and practice “self-care,” but to be honest, most weeks, it’s a struggle. If you see me sipping a smoothie in my car in target’s parking lot… just keep it moving, because that is my self-care moment. : )
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
The goal of Chat with Charli is to provide thought-provoking, relatable, and realistic relationship advice to young black couples. We focus primarily on trust issues and communication issues that couples face. What sets us apart is that a lot of the “social media dating” advice is watered down and is not from a realistic perspective. In addition to that, many of the people giving the advice are not in healthy relationships themselves. At Chat, with Charli, I share my REAL LIFE experiences to bring light to what a couple needs to have a successful relationship. We share examples of phrases that someone can say in an argument to get their point across while staying calm or help people to get to the root of why they are struggling with trust issues. We have an e-course called “Master You Messy,” which is specifically designed to walk people through getting over their past, so they can move forward and have healthier relationships. Our mission is to help couples win at life and relationships!
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Plan, plan, plan! Before you decide to start your business, you need to know your numbers. How much is it going to cost to produce your product/service, and how much time and money is it going to take to market your product/service, and how likely are you to convert those viewers of your product/service into customers. People focus too much on the item they are selling and not enough time on figuring out how to get customers.
