Community Highlights: Meet Courtney Hovinen of Moms Get Fit

Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Hovinen

Hi Courtney, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
In my early 20’s I became a CrossFit athlete and quickly fell in love with fitness and training. In 2018 I decided to get pregnant and quickly realized no one, coaches or doctors, knew what to do with me and my training so I just did my best. Postpartum was much of the same thing, jumping back in with very little guidance it became very apparent to me the lack of space for women in the motherhood season of their life in fitness. This lead to me becoming injured and defeated, so 3 years postpartum I had enough and dug into my own studies. I started to learn and build a program to fill in the gaps in training for moms. Out of that was born Moms Get Fit, where no matter where a woman is in her life we are ready to train her.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely wasn’t a smooth road, it has taken quite a bit of trial and error, countless courses, books, blog posts, and studies to build my business. In the last 3 years of business building my family moved 3 times and I moved my business from strictly online to a hybrid version of in person training and online training. There were plenty of times that I wanted to quit because my business wasn’t growing as fast as I thought it should. Being an entrepreneur is hard, but I’m so glad I kept with it.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Moms Get Fit is strength based fitness and nutrition. I specialize in prenatal and postpartum training and nutrition which is just a really fancy way of saying that I know how to train women in every season of life.

I built it specifically for women to have a space in the fitness game without being confined to Pilates or yoga or just cardio. I specialize in helping women get really strong without making them feel the need to bounce back or hate themselves while doing it.

When I was pregnant and postpartum I didn’t look like the traditional fit mom, I didn’t bounce back or lose the baby weight or ditch the mom pooch and I’m really proud to run a business that lets you know that’s okay. To let women know they can be really strong and fit and love themselves without shame.

I training in person at an all women gym in Casselberry and a private gym in Sanford. I also have different online offerings available through the Moms Get Fit App.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Prior to having my daughter I planned to just do nutrition, but put my business building on hold when I unexpectedly became a single mom when she was born and didn’t pursue it again until she was 3 years old. Moms Get Fit was built completely out of me being tired of being in pain and not able to reach my full training potential after giving birth.

Pricing:

  • In person training starts at $280 a month
