Community Highlights: Meet Daniel Edwards of Transformation Shoppe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Edwards.

Hi Daniel, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
Do you know how they say if something is meant to be, it will be? That’s how I describe my story. When I was younger, I wanted to be a psychologist. After getting a Bachelor’s degree in Sport-Management and a Master’s degree in Sport-Exercise Psychology I strayed away from that goal and instead, I taught Physical Education & Health to K-12th graders, coached golf & track, and also spent time managing a gym.

I transitioned into working for an insurance company adjudicating disability claims and it was during that time that my interest in mental health was reignited. I created Transformation Shoppe LLC as a side gig doing personal training and meal plans when I returned to grad school working towards a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Fast forward, while working towards licensure I realized that therapy isn’t feasible or accessible for everyone. That got me looking into wellness coaching – or as a lot of people call it Life Coaching.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There have definitely been points where I’ve taken the wrong fork in the road and ended up at more than a few dead-ends. My plan was to earn hours under supervision to become a Licensed Mental Health Clinician in FL & a Licensed Professional Counselor in GA and then eventually work on my own.

Life happened and I got kicked out of the nest earlier than planned when I was let go from the private practice where I was employed. I had to make quick decisions about my next steps – I dove into putting my all into Transformation Shoppe. Stepping away from the safety net of a full-time career and becoming a full-time entrepreneur is scary.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The mission of TS is to help individuals transform – whether it be mentally or physically I want to help people live their best possible life. I’m a Health & Wellness Consultant; I offer career & life coaching, and assistance to individuals navigating employer or state-sponsored disability benefits programs. I also provide assistance to transgender individuals navigating their medical and social transition. What sets me apart from others is not only my background & experience – but I can work with people across the US.

I have the knowledge and training of a therapist but while working through TS I can be more relaxed than your typical therapist and connect with clients on a personal level. I’m not bound to the ethical codes of the profession or licensure guidelines when I’m not working in a therapeutic space. Therapists are sometimes seen as perfect people who have everything together they’re almost put on a pedestal.

That’s not me. I don’t want anyone to see me as perfect; I want clients to know I’m human. I bring my ups and downs, good decisions and bad with me to the table when working with a client. I have seen that clients appreciate my transparency as I help navigate them through their journey.

What do you think about happiness?
One of the things that makes me happiest is being able to walk someone through their disability benefits in their time of need. For example, Short-Term Disability should be helpful and provide assistance to someone when they’re sick or injured. Far too often it’s difficult to understand.

When I’m able to help someone receive their rightfully deserved benefits and help relieve some of their stress – that’s what makes me happy.
