Hi Darlenne, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I thought about starting to do lashes roughly 2 years ago but never actually took the classes to become certified until this year in May. I just kept telling myself that it wasn’t going to go anywhere & that I probably would only do it just to be able to learn something new, as learning new things is something I enjoy doing. Boy was I wrong! I have honestly fallen in love with lashing & meeting new people. Even though I haven’t been lashing for very long. I have practice endlessly on my family & friends, in doing so I was able to build my profile on Instagram & show everyone what I am capable of doing. Lashing isn’t an easy thing it’s extremely tedious! You have to be willing to learn different ways to help yourself. At the end of the day it’s really all about seeing how happy & beautiful your clients feel once they open their eyes & see their lashes!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It for sure has not been a smooth road! There are many things to owning a small business & doing lashes that I truly just never knew of until I started. The hardest thing is building your clientele from the grown-up. Yes… there are endless amounts of people who get their lashes done but you have to prove to them that you are the right fit for them & that is your work is worth what you’re asking for. You also have to understand that not everyone is going to like your work & that is 100% okay! Because not everyone likes the same things. Someone not liking your work doesn’t mean you suck or your work isn’t good!

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My advice for those who are just starting out would be practice, practice, practice!!! Do not rush to start charging people if you feel like your work isn’t something you would get done on yourself. Make sure to learn as much as you can because there is always room to grow! Also, don’t go crazy buying all these cool lash things just get the basic things you need to do a client to be able to practice. Remember your work will show how much time you’ve put into it!
