Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Jahnke and Dr. Mahon.
Hi Dr. Jahnke and Dr. Mahon, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Family Tree Primary Care was created by Dr. Jahnke and Dr. Mahon out of a desire to create a better healthcare experience for both patients and physicians alike. We were determined to find a way to repair the parts of the healthcare system that were broken, and thanks to our Direct Primary Care model, our Oviedo, Florida office has been able to do just that!
Our mission is to make medicine personal, accessible, and affordable without sacrificing the quality of care. Whatever your concerns, we want to be the first point of contact for your healthcare needs. In fact, we can diagnose and treat many conditions in-house (including many prescriptions).
Family Tree Primary Care was created by our families with the comfort of your family in mind. At every interaction, we do our best to make you feel seen, heard, and respected, guiding you towards the best treatment options. We spend an average of 30 minutes per patient so that we have time to discuss any additional concerns.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
When we first opened Family Tree Primary Care, Direct Primary Care wasn’t as well-known as it is today. Traditional primary care practices are able to gain new patients easily thanks to their practices being listed on the portals of the insurance plans that they accept. Being a membership-based primary care practice that does NOT bill insurance, we relied exclusively on word-of-mouth referrals and the influence of social media to get our name out in the community. Our greatest hurdle, without a doubt, was convincing people that we were a reputable, trustworthy business with actual Board Certified Physicians willing to deliver quality healthcare at such a low monthly cost.
As you know, we’re big fans of Family Tree Primary Care. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We’re a bit different from traditional practices in that we do not bill insurance. Instead, our patients pay a low monthly membership fee which covers all of their in-office visits, most in-office procedures and they get up to 98% off on labs/meds/imaging through our negotiated rates with local laboratory and imaging centers as well as their medications being offered in-house.
In addition, our physicians and nurse practitioner only take around 500 patients total rather than the thousands that traditional primary care physicians take. In doing this, we are able to see patients when they are actually sick, offer 30-minute appointments and all of our patients are given the direct cell phone number of their Physician or Nurse Practitioner so they can call/text when healthcare concerns arise rather than waiting for a call back from their doctor’s office. Our patients rarely have to wait long after their appointment time to see their physician since we keep our patient volume lower.
Despite being an exclusively cash-pay practice, most of our patients still carry some form of insurance to cover hospital visits or specialists fees. Even those that do are still able to save a significant amount of money on their healthcare costs throughout the year as well as save time getting seen when healthcare concerns do arise.
We pride ourselves on not only offering quality healthcare at an affordable price but for also developing genuine connections with our patients so they feel safe and comfortable while in our office.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
We are incredibly fortunate to be able to operate our practice here in Oviedo, Florida where we are surrounded by other local small businesses. As such, we will often refer local small businesses to patients asking for specific recommendations whether that be healthcare, mental health, resources for their family members and more. We also have a list of outside healthcare specialists to recommend to our patients needing more specialized healthcare.
