Community Highlights: Meet Eli of Eli’s Marine

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eli.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I didn’t come from money, connections, or a family business. I came from knocking on doors.
I started Eli’s Marine in 2018 with huge goals, and as a mobile mechanic in Orlando, Florida. No shop. No safety net. Just tools, a truck, and the willingness to outwork anyone. I literally went door-to-door during the day, introducing myself, asking people for a chance, and building trust one customer at a time. Every job mattered because every dollar mattered.

When COVID hit, everything got harder—but I didn’t stop. I tightened up, saved every penny I could, and made a bold move that didn’t look smart to most people at the time. I relocated to Lake County, Florida with almost nothing. Pennies on the dollar. No guarantees. Just belief and discipline.

That sacrifice paid off. I was finally able to secure my first small shop, and from there, things slowly started to stack. I began buying Suzuki Marine outboards from another dealer because I believed in the product and knew there was demand. That decision actually got me into trouble—but instead of backing down, I leaned in.
I went directly to Suzuki Marine and asked for an opportunity. I didn’t have a perfect résumé or a big facility—I had results, hunger, and a track record of grinding when things were uncomfortable. They took a chance on me, and I made sure I never wasted it.
Within the first two years, we put up strong numbers and proved we belonged. That momentum allowed us to expand into a frontage-road dealership, which was a massive leap from where I started. It wasn’t smooth. There were setbacks, long nights, cash-flow stress, and moments where quitting would’ve been easier—but we kept pushing.
One of the biggest turning points was partnering with Cumberland Watersports. That relationship helped us scale, strengthen our footprint, and take the operation to another level. Today, we are proud to be one of the largest Suzuki Marine dealers in the United States—something I couldn’t have imagined when I was knocking on doors just hoping someone would say yes.
This journey has been blood, sweat, and tears. It’s been a grind—and a blessing. I’m thankful for every failure that taught me something, every risk that paid off, and every person who believed in me when there was nothing to see yet.

I truly came from nothing. And now, I’m building something that lasts.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The journey wasn’t smooth, and it definitely wasn’t glamorous. In the early days, I was working long hours in the Florida heat, fixing engines out of the back of my truck, worrying about where the next job would come from. There were weeks where I didn’t know if I’d make enough to cover fuel, insurance, or basic bills—but I kept showing up.

During COVID, uncertainty was constant. Customers were hesitant to spend, supply chains were broken, and parts were hard to find. I had moments where cash flow was razor thin and every decision felt like it could make or break the business. Moving to Lake County with almost no money was a huge risk. I left familiarity, comfort, and a customer base behind, betting everything on myself with no guarantee it would work.

When I finally got my first shop, the pressure increased instead of easing. Rent, utilities, payroll, and inventory stacked up fast. One slow month could erase everything I’d worked for. I made mistakes, learned lessons the hard way, and had nights where sleep didn’t come easy because the responsibility felt heavy.

There was also a point where I got into trouble for purchasing Suzuki Marine engines through another dealer. That could’ve shut my momentum down completely. Instead of walking away, I swallowed my pride and went straight to Suzuki, asking for an opportunity rather than making excuses. Rejection was a real possibility—but so was growth.

Expanding into a larger dealership came with its own struggles. Scaling meant more risk, more stress, and more accountability. There were setbacks, unexpected expenses, and moments where progress felt painfully slow. But each challenge sharpened my discipline, strengthened my resilience, and forced me to become a better leader.

None of it was handed to me. Every step forward came with sacrifice. The struggles didn’t break me—they built me.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Eli’s Marine?
Eli’s Marine is a full-service marine dealership and service center built around one core focus: doing repowers the right way. What started as a one-man mobile operation has grown into one of the largest Suzuki Marine repower centers in the United States.

We specialize in complete outboard repowers, diagnostics, rigging, and marine service, with a strong emphasis on Suzuki Marine products. Our team handles everything from small center consoles to large offshore boats, offering turnkey solutions that include engine installation, digital controls, electronics integration, and post-install support. Our goal is simple—deliver reliable power, clean installs, and long-term value for our customers.

In addition to our brick-and-mortar dealership, we operate alongside our sister company, which runs the largest e-commerce program in the United States for shipping portable outboard engines nationwide. This allows us to serve customers far beyond Florida, providing new Suzuki portable engines that are professionally prepped, crated, and shipped directly to customers across the country.

Together, these operations give us a unique footprint in the marine industry—combining high-volume repowers, in-house expertise, and nationwide distribution. Whether a customer walks into our dealership or orders an engine from across the country, they receive the same commitment to quality, transparency, and service that Eli’s Marine was built on.
