Today we’d like to introduce you to Evangelina Blue-Williams.
Hi Evangelina, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Growing up, I watched my dad in the kitchen cooking. When I grew up, I still had that love of cooking. While serving in the Military, I attended Culinary school. That is where Mystic Blue was created, originally as a catering company. Until I created my first BBQ Sauce. I needed BBQ Sauce one day and didn’t want to go to the store, so instead I created my own. I later made it again for a family event, and everyone loved it. I later decided to bottle and sell what is now known as Sweet’ n Spicy. The one led to a second sauce, as customers were asking for another sauce, so I created Honey Mustard. I then had two sauces.
In 2023, after serving 21 years in the Military, I retired; that same year, I lost my dad. With the loss of my dad, I lost my love of cooking. Trying to work my way back into the kitchen, I remembered how much my dad supported my cooking and knew he would have wanted me to continue, so I went back into the kitchen. Soon after, I created Simply Savory. With my retirement came my relocation from Broward County to Lake County.
This is where I began to dedicate more time to my business. I joined the Clermont Farmers Market and started selling my BBQ Sauces there. I got great customer reviews and built a customer base. I have participated in trade shows, including the National Restaurant Show, and sell my sauces on my website, all with the goal of reaching as many customers as possible. I am at the Clermont Farmers Market selling my sauce every Sunday, with the help and support of my Husband and kids. Continuing to build my brand and attract new customers each day, through social media and in-person meetings. My sauces are free of corn syrups, and some are gluten-free. I provide primum sauces that my customers can feel good about buying.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Initially, I struggled to find time for my business because I was in the military, working a full-time job, and caring for my children. After retiring and relocating, I hoped things would improve. But then my dad passed away, which pulled me away from the kitchen. Although I continued to provide meals for my family, the excitement of cooking had disappeared. Later, as I began pursuing my licenses, I found the process to be long—each time I thought I was close, another department would appear, or I would have to obtain one permit for the next, and so on. It was frustrating, but I persevered.
As you know, we’re big fans of MYSTIC BLUE. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Mystic Blue is a veteran-owned catering company turned specialty sauce producer, built on passion, hard work, and exceptional flavor. We specialize in handcrafted barbecue sauces. Each sauce is made from scratch using high-quality ingredients and bold flavors. Our three signature sauces — Sweet n Spicy, Honey Mustard, and Simply Savory — reflect a perfect balance of boldness and comfort. They are designed to elevate any meal from ordinary to unforgettable.
What sets Mystic Blue apart is our story and our standards. The brand was inspired by memories of cooking with my father, strengthened through culinary training, and disciplined by military experience. We are driven by a mission to bring genuine flavor to every bottle. Mystic Blue sauces are made with care, consistency, and a personal touch that honors our journey.
Mystic Blue is known not only for our sauces but also for our presence at the local Clermont Farmers Market. There, we serve crowd favorites like brisket mac-and-cheese balls and smoked turkey legs — all paired with our signature sauces. Whether in a bottle or on a plate, Mystic Blue is about connection. We bring people together through food and flavor that tells a story.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of my growth as a business—from small-batch beginnings to upcoming recognition by major retailers. Each milestone is more than a business success; it’s proof that hard work, authenticity, and drive can make a dream a reality.
What I want readers to know about Mystic Blue is that it was built through hard work, sacrifice, and long nights. There were times when quitting felt easier than continuing. I built this business on my own — one step, one recipe, and one goal at a time. I did it to show my children that dedication turns dreams into reality. Mystic Blue is proof that with consistency, drive, and belief, you can watch your dream grow into something big. I’m not finished yet — I’m just getting started. Watch for Mystic Blue—it’s destined for the shelves, and its best chapters are still ahead.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
I have had a good support system on my journey, whether it was encouragement from family who live long distances or my husband and kids helping me fill bottles and set up at the Markets. When I started to sell food alongside my BBQ sauce at the market, my husband stayed up all night with me, working the grill. I would season the meat, and he would grill it. I also have mentors from veteran programs, such as Wounded Warrior and The Rosie Network. These two programs taught me a great deal through live courses that expanded my knowledge, and they are always available for any questions I may have.
