Hi Evee, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
City Escape Spa started as a dream during a pivotal time in my life. After serving in the U.S. Army Reserves, I was ready for a new chapter but wasn’t sure what that would look like. While researching career options, I discovered the world of beauty and wellness. Visiting schools introduced me to the Full Specialist program, combining nails and esthetics. I had no experience in either field, but I jumped in, eager to learn.
During esthetics school, a project required me to create a business concept. That’s when City Escape Spa was born—a vision of a space where clients could truly relax, renew, and refresh. With the unwavering support of my husband, Shawn, we turned that vision into reality. Now, as we celebrate eight incredible years of serving our community, I’m also marking 10 years as a licensed Full Specialist and nearly eight years as a licensed massage therapist.
It’s been an inspiring journey of growth, resilience, and passion. Watching City Escape Spa flourish and becoming a part of our clients’ self-care routines has been one of the greatest rewards. This business has truly been a labor of love, and I’m grateful for the chance to do what I love every day.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The journey has been anything but smooth, but every challenge has made us stronger. In 2020, we faced the seven-week government-mandated COVID shutdown. The following year, in 2021, my mother contracted COVID, and we had to close for six weeks to prioritize her health and the safety of our team. In 2022, Hurricane Ian devastated our spa with flooding, forcing us to shut down for 100 days.
2023 became our comeback year. With the support of the companies we partner with, our loyal clients, and my husband, Shawn, we reopened stronger than ever. That year, we were honored with several accolades: 2023 Best of Florida Best Nail Salon, 2023 Orlando’s Best Top 3 Day Spas, and 2023 Best Pros in Town Best Nail Salon in Casselberry.
In 2024, we achieved another milestone by moving to a larger, more luxurious location—a testament to our resilience. However, finding a new space wasn’t easy due to the tough market and economy, and hiring has been an ongoing challenge as we grow. We were also thrilled to win 2024 Best of Florida Best Nail Salon again. Despite it all, our passion, perseverance, and community’s support keep us moving forward. Every obstacle has reinforced our belief in what we do and why we do it.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
One of my favorite childhood memories is traveling with my family. My dad loved to drive, so road trips were a big part of my upbringing. We’d visit places like his hometown of Philadelphia or explore the landmarks of Washington, D.C. One trip that stands out was when I saw snow for the very first time in Atlanta at just five years old—coming from Puerto Rico, snow was something I had only imagined.
We even took a road trip all the way to Vermont just to purchase a motorcycle. Those adventures weren’t just about the destinations; they were about the quality time we spent together, the stories we shared, and the memories we created along the way. Those trips instilled in me a love for exploring and embracing life’s journeys, big or small.
