Community Highlights: Meet Heather Musser of Brows Skin Beauty

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Musser.

Hi Heather, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey in a beauty industry started at 16 years of age I had a dream I own my own salon and product line, I followed my passion from there. Those closest to me told me, “Heather, you will never make it as a stylist” even though I work as a solo esthetician supporting my son and I as a single mom here in Florida. I moved to the Orlando area in 2016 not knowing anyone and slept out of my car for six months to get where I am now. The journey has not ended and I am still on my path to grow as a successful business owner and entrepreneur. My first job here in Florida, I bartended for about a year until I got my Florida credentials and was able to get a job in the salon. I worked at a salon in Dr. Phillips for about eight months hurricane Irma came through in 2017 and at that time, I had already transferred to a new location in the west Orlando area. The company I worked for on and off throughout the years I adored and excelled at my position there at the company eventually promoted to become the trainer and top waxer at my location. March 2020 COVID happened and I was out of work out of pay and didn’t know what to do. Those three months out of work were the most scariest times of my life but also the best because without 2020, I don’t think I would have had the courage to go out on my own and work for myself. I founded Brows Skin Beauty studio in May 2020 where I opened my first location. After nine months, I outgrew that space and was ready to expand. I found my new location in Winter garden. I still am renting a salon suite, I have another girl there with me doing nails and I am continuing my journey on growing and expanding my business to eventually own a storefront and have multiple locations.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Haha, smooth road? No! when is the road to success ever a straight line? Some of the struggles there have been a lot of struggles. To sum them all up, basically finding the courage and the strength to overcome my fear of self-doubt and go work for myself and go accomplish my goals and put 1 foot in front of the other to make my dreams come true. So if I did it, anyone can do it really truly whatever you put your mind to whatever goal you want for yourself you can accomplish. If I went into details about my struggles, we will be here for a while and this is just a quick article. I don’t want to make it a novel; I’m saving that chapter for the book I want to write one day.

As you know, we’re big fans of Brows Skin Beauty. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?

It can be nerve-racking coming to someone you’ve never met before trusting them with your beauty needs. I was taught growing up treat people the way you want to be treated and that’s exactly what I do. I treat my clients and those around me in my life the way I wanna be treated. What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Be bold, be you. Professionalism along with self-character, goes a long way. Being real and your true authentic self remaining professional with my clients and my business is my motto to success.
