Community Highlights: Meet Huda Dalaq of Insideful Interiors

Today we’d like to introduce you to Huda Dalaq.

Hi Huda, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My passion for creativity was instilled in me by my grandfather. He was an art teacher for over 30 years and passed on his skills to my mother, who later passed it on to me. After he retired, he started his own YouTube series where he shared his crafts, from bookbinding to floral lanterns. After his passing, it’s been comforting to have a piece of him to go back to where I can still learn from and find inspiration. Growing up around a creative family, I noticed I have always had an eye for interior decor. I would frequently rearrange the furniture in my parent’s house, or display the artwork my grandfather and I made together.

Fast forward 15 years later, I graduated with a BA in Psychology and married a handy civil engineer. We moved through many apartments, but made sure to make each apartment our own.

Although we knew we would pick up and move soon, I wanted to make sure that the time spent in each apartment felt like home. My husband would construct wood projects, such as coffee bars and office desks, and I would arrange and decorate them to blend seamlessly into the space.

With my husband’s support, I decided to share my skills and passion with others, and use my psychology background to help others make their spaces a safe haven for their minds and bodies–hence the name, Insightful of the Inside = Insideful Interiors.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?

Starting this business has definitely been a rewarding journey.

After starting Insideful Interiors, my husband and I purchased our first home, a 1981 built ranch, which we’ve been renovating and using as a learning opportunity. I’ve been able to learn about techniques, concepts, unique styles, and entrepreneurship. I have also been able to bring together a team of trustworthy and skilled individuals to help make beautiful designs come to life.

The more I read and learn, the better I understand my style and how to better cater to my clients. In addition to learning about interior design, I’m learning what it entails to be a business owner. Learning never stops, and that’s the rewarding part of growing a business!
