Today we’d like to introduce you to Janay Thomas.
Janay, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Prior to my career in real estate and upon graduating from the University of Florida in 2013. I was offered a position to relocate to New York to teach Pre-school in Harlem! In 2017, I relocated back to my hometown, Orlando, FL to continue my passion in education. I worked at a local elementary school as a reading and math coach for 3rd, 4rd, and 5th Graders. After the classroom, I decided to take my talents to the real estate industry. As a former educator, I take pride in educating others. Real Estate is another form of education that I thoroughly enjoy.
I decided to become a real estate agent for a few reasons. I wanted to create financial freedom for myself and my family! I know this is normally a cliché statement but I’m a living witness. Real estate has allowed me to get out of debt, pay off my car two years early, and to purchase my 1st home in my second year in Real Estate as a full-time agent!
Since becoming a real estate agent, my life will never be the same. I’ve been able to accomplish things I’ve always dreamed of. My business has grown drastically in just a short amount of time. I am extremely blessed and thankful. I owe a lot of my success to my social media family. They’ve helped me grow my business to another level. So, thank you to all my family, friends, clients, and my social media family for all the support.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road as an entrepreneur and business owner has not been a smooth road at all. I’ve learned so much about myself and being a leader that will forever change my outlook on what it takes to be successful business owner. My biggest struggle was when I quit my corporate job. Adjusting to not having a paycheck every two weeks was hard. I had to learn quickly how to manage my funds accordingly because in real estate, you don’t get paid every month. There are sometimes gaps based when homes are closing. I would also say it’s been such a huge learning experience having my own business. From learning how to leverage others, hiring, training others, setting up payroll, paying taxes (my least my favorite part… lol), organizing systems/business operations, etc.

I’m the founder and owner of the JT Home Group at Keller Williams Classic Realty. As a native Floridian and longtime resident of Orlando, FL. Janay can easily identify the needs of this ever-changing real estate market. With my marketing background and expertise with real estate technology I create the best plan and experience for clients on their real estate journey. As the team owner and leader, I also enjoy coaching and mentoring others, helping others see their full potential. I’m an educator at heart. My experience as a previous educator has driven my passion to help others achieve their dreams and lifelong goals. My goals are for the team to provide every client with a 5-star experience, to create an environment of growth for our team, and to constantly be the best for our clients!

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Wow, that’s a great question. I would say I don’t think people really know how hard I work behind the scenes. I’m sure people see that I’m working, but most people don’t really know how much time, care, and money I’ve poured into my business. My brand means everything to me!
