Fashion’s always been my thing, probably inherited from my mom’s fashion legacy in Colombia. Growing up amidst NYC’s diverse fashion scene, I dreamed big – a dream that became my boutique. Not just for me but a legacy for my daughters, who share my love for all things fashion. But let me tell you, making this dream real wasn’t a breeze. Juggling a 9-5 job, running a boutique, squeezing in some schooling, and barking into the digital marketing world was no joke. Why did I do it? To show my daughters that age and whatever life throws at you are just speed bumps on the road to chasing your dreams. Faced with doubters, I stood tall, refusing to let anyone dim my light. We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road to where I am today has been anything but smooth. It’s been a journey marked by challenges, late nights, and moments of uncertainty. One of the biggest hurdles was juggling multiple responsibilities. Finding balance was a constant struggle as a single mom with a full-time job and the dream of running a boutique. Sometimes, it felt overwhelming, but the passion for my dream and the desire to set an example for my daughters kept me going. Financial constraints were another significant challenge. Starting and running a boutique requires a financial investment, and as a single mom, resources were limited. I had to be creative in finding solutions, budgeting wisely, and seeking opportunities for financial support or partnerships. Time management was yet another obstacle. Between the demands of a 9-5 job, running the boutique, and pursuing my education, there were moments when there weren’t enough hours in the day. Planning, delegating, and staying organized became crucial skills in navigating this hectic schedule. Dealing with self-doubt and external skepticism was also part of the journey. There were moments when I questioned whether I could pull off my dream, and some people doubted the feasibility of my aspirations. Overcoming these internal and external doubts required a strong belief in myself and my vision. Despite these challenges, each obstacle became a stepping stone, shaping me into a more resilient and determined individual. The struggles, in retrospect, were integral to the journey, teaching me valuable lessons and adding depth to the sense of accomplishment I feel today.
