Community Highlights: Meet Jennifer Peets of Naked Bar Soap Co.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Peets.

Hi Jennifer, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We didn’t start Naked Bar Soap Co. with a business plan or a marketing team. We started with a baby. Our founder’s son was born with severe cradle cap, and the doctor recommended a medicated shampoo meant for grown men. That didn’t sit right. So we turned to olive oil and that moment changed everything.

What began as a simple solution turned into a mission. We started making soap in the kitchen, testing formulas, learning ingredients, and passing bars to friends and family. People came back asking for more. That’s when we knew we weren’t alone in wanting better for our skin.

Naked Bar Soap Co. grew from those early days, bar by bar, with zero fluff and a whole lot of intention. No fake naturals. No performative clean beauty. Just real ingredients, real results, and rituals that feel as good as they look.

As a Black Latina-owned brand, we know firsthand how often we’re left out of the clean beauty conversation or only invited in when it’s trending. We’re not here for trends. We’re here for the long game. For making skin feel like home, not like a project.

Today, we’re running a full studio, building a loyal community, and staying rooted in what matters: bold self-care, high-quality ingredients, and skin that speaks for itself.

We’re not here to sell pretty. We’re here to stir something before you even get dressed.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been smooth. We’ve bootstrapped from day one. No investors. No celebrity shoutouts. Just grit, late nights, and figuring things out on the fly.

There were times when we had to choose between ordering supplies or paying a bill. We’ve dealt with burnout, supply chain chaos, and the pressure of running a business while still showing up for our families. And as a small Black Latina-owned brand, we’ve had to work twice as hard to be taken seriously in rooms that weren’t built with us in mind.

But we’ve never backed down. Every challenge forced us to get sharper, scrappier, and more intentional. We’ve learned how to stretch a dollar, pivot when plans fall apart, and trust that slow growth still counts as progress.

It hasn’t been easy. But it’s been worth it.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Naked Bar Soap Co.?
Naked Bar Soap Co. is a body care brand built around real skin and real rituals. We make small-batch, handcrafted soaps, oils, and moisturizers that do what they say without the fluff, the fillers, or the fake naturals.

We’re known for turning everyday routines into unapologetic escapes. Our products are rich in skin-loving ingredients like shea, mango, and kokum butters, olive oil, salts, and plant-based oils but what really sets us apart is how we make people feel when they use them. It’s care with bite, confidence in a bar, and self-respect in every swipe.

As a Black Latina-owned brand, we center quality, intention, and a cheeky sense of humor in everything we do. Our soaps aren’t just pretty. Our oils don’t just shimmer. Everything we make has a job to do and it does it well.

We’re not here to compete with the big brands. We’re here to call BS on the beauty aisle, one naked bar at a time.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Finding a mentor hasn’t always been easy for us. We didn’t have someone handing us a playbook or opening doors. A lot of what we’ve learned came from trial, error, and staying curious.

Our best advice? Build genuine relationships. Don’t just network for the sake of opportunity. Show up with intention. Ask real questions. Share what you know without expecting something in return. The right people will notice.

We’ve also found that sometimes mentors aren’t people. You can learn a lot from books, podcasts, interviews, and even watching how other small brands move. Keep your eyes open. Your next lesson might not come from a coffee chat. It might come from simply paying attention.
