Community Highlights: Meet Jennifer Ross of Birch and Belle

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Ross.

Hi Jennifer, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
When I first formed Birch and Belle, I knew I wanted to open a business with my family. We are all very close and we are some of the hardest working people you will know. My dad, Jerry and brother, Chris, were on board when I said I wanted to start a business together. My brother came up with the crazy idea to buy a laser machine and the rest is history. With a love for all things creative, we produce beautiful birch products such as bridal accents, decorative signs for the home, arts & crafts, and gifts. Family and service of others are the core values of our business, and our mission is to create cherished items that will warm your heart and enhance your home.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Honestly, I feel like we haven’t had many obstacles, thankfully. Working with my family has been incredibly smooth and we haven’t had any issues as far as that goes. My dad and I work side by side and things have only gotten better. We’re like a well-oiled machine. My biggest obstacle was in the beginning while I was trying to juggle work, family, and my new business. I was teaching at the time and I felt like I had zero time (or patience) with my two young girls and my husband. I decided to put my teaching career on hold. I hope to return one day but I know it was the right move for me at the time. Now I get to be home full-time and not have to miss out on anything. It’s really allowed me to put a lot more focus on growing the business.

We’ve been impressed with Birch and Belle, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Birch and Belle is a laser wood cutting business. We specialize in wedding props, nursery decor, party decor, realtor gifts, and photography props. The thing that makes us stand out is that we are willing to do custom orders. Most of the local orders we recieve are custom. Usually someone calls me up with an idea and I take that idea and bring it to life. I have definitely stretched my creativity over the last few years and I have surprised myself. People love custom work and everyone wants something different. The party theme market is huge these days. It seems like every party has a theme to go along with it. Finding coordinating and unique decor isn’t always easy so that’s where we step in. I’m usually just as excited as the customer so I’m pretty easy to work with. It’s usually a fun experience for everyone involved.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
Orlando is an amazing place to live and to raise kids. There is just so much to do. We have a wide range of parks, restaurants, and attractions. Everything you can imagine is at our fingertips. And every corner has its own charm. I know a lot of people might complain about the traffic but I honestly think that only applies to the touristy areas. There are so many small businesses and local treasures if you know where to look.
