Today we’d like to introduce you to Jose Viera.
Hi Jose, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Kevlar Productions started initially in Atlanta, Georgia. Living in Atlanta, our founder Prime Ethic got his start in the film industry. In fact, shortly after turning down an independent record contract, his film career began. Being already embedded into the music industry, the film world also provided a home for Prime. He quickly went on to working on film sets with some of the biggest musical acts in the world. Some of these names include Drake, Future, Big Boi, Lil Baby, among others. Prime was eager to make art of any fashion, to leave a lasting impact on the world. Together he, and his close musician friend Myles “Southside Gee” Richardson would officially go into business as Kevlar Productions. Their name was inspired by an event that left a major mark on both men.
Like many, Gee and Prime were troubled with the news of George Floyd’s untimely death in the hands of law enforcement officers. This event sparked an urge to gain closure by peacefully protesting in Windermere, Florida. Partaking in the protests themselves, they went home feeling defeated and unsatisfied. Longing for a justice system that fights for equality and not against it, unbeknownst to them, they desired a feeling of protection and if the police couldn’t provide it, they wanted to embody it. Thus the Kevlar name was born. Kevlar being a resilient material made to withstand high impact and offer protection. We at Kevlar Productions are deeply committed to embodying the strength of kevlar in our quality and character.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Professionally, we continually face struggles but we consider ourselves in the “problem-solving business” overall. Prime Ethic Finding consistently talented and purpose-driven collaborators has been one of our struggles. It took some time to find the right team of professionals to embark on this journey with us.
