Today we’d like to introduce you to Joseph Hanna.
Hi Joseph, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’d like to think things started right before college graduation. I was graduating with a degree in Recreation & Sports Management with minor in Advertising. Our country at the current time was going into the Recession, so I’d graduate with no jobs to look forward too. I needed a job, and a friend recommended I apply for a behavioral health job working with children. I applied and got the job, but my initial intentions were solely a paycheck. The experience in that job over a year allowed me to get the opportunity to get a better one at of Miami’s biggest hospitals. I worked for Jackson Memorial hospital for two years in behavioral health, not children, but adults. The more I worked in the healthcare system, the more I felt that I would prefer to work in more of a “preventative healthcare” type of setting. I kept my hospital job while getting my first fitness job working in a boutique studio on Miami Beach. It was in that setting I realized the fitness industry is where I needed to be with the passion I had for helping others.
With a one-year-old and a pregnant wife, we decided that moving to Orlando would be the best thing for our family as we grew. It was the decision to leave the hospital job, the fitness job, the place I grew up, friends, and start fresh. Since moving to Orlando in 2014, I have been afforded the opportunities to work thousands of men and women through my different positions in fitness industry. These positions have ranged from personal training counselor to the personal training director in various gyms. I also created a fitness studio that was successful during it time of business as well over the past almost seven years. The experiences in the industry from training to sales allowed to me transition into online fitness coaching when the Pandemic started in 2020. I was group fitness coaching for one of the top fitness brands in the globe when the Quarantine first took place. With the world shut down, it leveled the playing field for everyone, and I made the decision to help as many people as I could online as a fitness coach by conducting several 30-day challenges. I also began using my in-person skillset to develop a 90-day online fitness coaching program called “Habits.” Using my experience from the healthcare system in behavioral health, I was able to tie those principles into helping men and women achieve sustainable results!
As a behavioral health specialist, personal trainer, and nutrition coach, I longed to have my own supplement company. The Pandemic also allowed me to build my network and find the right companies to help me get into the dietary supplement industry. I was fortunate to get connected with all the right people to begin the process of developing a supplement line. The Coaches Playbook is my brand & business which I offer high-grade supplements that are formulated with 100% pure and natural ingredients. Our motto is “LETS EAAAT,” is an acronym for Everyone. Acknowledge. Accept. Act. Today. It sets the proper mindset when it comes to true habit & behavior change. We officially launch nationally on April 5th, 20201.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Not a smooth road at all. As a father and husband, the fitness industry isn’t going to give you financial freedom unless you have created something of your own. I’ve been a very important piece in a lot of the success within the companies I have worked for. My problem was that my understanding of business and all that comes with it was very new. I never thought that the owners I worked for wouldn’t offer me a seat at the tables I helped build. My passion and skills as a fitness professional led me to believe that I’d get the equity I earned, but that’s not how it works. Those few experiences left me broke, depressed, and unsure of how I would feed my family. The global pandemic gave me the confidence to decide to own my own so I won’t give anyone else the chance to “pull the rug” from up under me again.
