Community Highlights: Meet Julie Edwards of The House on Lang

Today we’d like to introduce you to Julie Edwards.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am the former CMO of Brightline (High-speed train coming to Orlando from Miami) and Marketing Executive for The Walt Disney Company. After leading the branding and launch of Brightline, in 2018 I returned to Orlando and started focusing on creating something special for my next chapter.

After traveling extensively with my husband, friends and family- I realized Orlando was missing an experiential shopping and maker space. I had a vision, but not a location . . . until we found a little building that was begging for something special.

In August 2020, during the pandemic, my business partner (Christie McLennan) and I (with a little help from our families !) began renovating a space that would become one of the most unique destination shopping and workshop spaces in Central Florida – The House on Lang.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Opening a business during the Pandemic was the greatest challenge that you can imagine – For example, everyone we needed to meet with to start the project (city permitting, contractors, etc.) was through meetings on zoom calls. To try and help people understand our vision without actually walking the space was super challenging. But everyone eventually supported our concept and helped us bring it to reality. And since we launched, the local community has lovingly embraced the “House” – perhaps people needed something different (and a shared sense of community) to get beyond all of the challenges we faced in 2020.

We’ve been impressed with The House on Lang, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The House on Lang is a unique destination experience for finding curated women’s and men’s clothing, home decor, gifts and local art. Each room of the house is a different experience with locally sourced art, jewelry and gifts. The House also is multi-functional where we can have local instructors teaching workshops – anything from painting to pasta making – and everything in between.

The multi-functional space is also ideal for private parties, food trucks or any special occasion with family and friends. The concept is a labor of love by both myself and Christie. We have created a unique shop with the creative inspiration, structure and focus to bring this concept to life for Orlando. Our partnership with the local art community has been a dream for both of us.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I love retail and creating space for art. People who know me, know that I love bringing people together for creative experiences. Now I get to do this everyday!!!
