Hi Kahelena, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Disney became my life before I was even born.
Starting with my grandmother started at Disneyland to then bring Polynesian culture to Walt Disney World when it opened. And on the other side of my family, my grandfather also worked at Disney World as a cook after leaving the military. Later in life, my father and my mother both worked at the Spirit of Aloha dinner show. My mom was a Polynesian dancer who danced at the Luau for many years. My dad was a musician at the Spirit of Aloha, Ohana’s, and retired at 30 years.
I grew up going to Disney’s Polynesian Resort, either going to work with my dad at the luau show or learning the Hula & other Polynesian dances by my grandmother. My love for Disney has been around since birth but being able to frequent all of the theme parks in Orlando has always been my favorite thing to do.
I created Beyond The Pixie Dust in 2019 so I could post all of my theme park adventures and share my experiences! I had all these photos on my phone that I had no place to share & thought, why not start a page to share them? And that’s what started this journey!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When I first started this, I never posted a photo of myself, and none I knew I even created this page. After a few months of posting and getting comfortable with my writing, I started to share myself more.
I’ve had challenges posting more about myself due to just wanting to share pretty photos or videos I’ve taken but I’ve enjoyed growing by sharing myself more with my followers.
As you know, we’re big fans of Beyond The Pixie Dust. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Beyond The Pixie Dust was created for me to share my love for the theme parks but mostly Disney. I feel I give a unique perspective being born and raised in Orlando and being someone who not only had family members as cast members but someone who frequently goes to all theme parks & shares my travel experiences.
I’m proud of myself for growing from 0 to 2,000+ followers during a time people haven’t been able to experience Florida due to the pandemic. I hope I provide tips, tricks, and reviews of my favorite things to do, and how to survive park days. I hope to grow more and see where I can take this to the next level, whatever that may be!
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Connect with others by sharing & getting to know who has invested their time to get to know you. But my main tip would be to share what you love and enjoy!
