Today we’d like to introduce you to Kai Lorraine.
Hi Kai, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m Kai Lorraine – Founder of Healing Roots Tribe, a nonprofit and community space that bloomed from my own journey of breaking generational curses while raising two daughters.
After navigating PTSD, Postpartum Depression, financial setbacks, and the deep spiritual awakening that followed, I realized how much was missing for people like me: Single parents, veterans, healers and just everyday folks trying to find solid ground in the midst of chaos.
So I built what I needed, what WE needed – a safe space to root + rise.
Healing Roots Tribe started as a dream turned passion project which is growing into a collective movement supporting veterans, single parents, and soulful individuals. I now blend holistic medicine, ancestral wisdom and creative storytelling to help others return home to themselves.
Everything I’ve built has been about turning my pain into purpose , and holding space for others to do the same.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road – more like a dirt path with roots and revelations.
I’ve faced postpartum depression, housing instability, and moments where survival felt louder than my purpose. I’ve been a single mommy navigating this healing while still hurting. I’ve had to learn how to unlearn toxic patterns, confront trauma, and rebuild my self worth from the inside out, all while trying to hold grace for myself and space for others.
There was a time I was smiling through survival mode, burnout and just the pressure to “be strong” because I am a mother, a provider and healer. I didn’t always have a soft place to land, so I had to become that for myself first.
Healing didn’t always look pretty, it looked like late nights crying on the floor, crying, praying and just wondering when I would ever feel whole again.
But every challenge deepened my compassion. Every storm watered my vision. And, every time I broke, I rebuilt softer and stronger. I started showing up as my authentic self, even when that version felt messy or unsure
I didn’t just overcome the obstacles, I grew through them. Thats why mental health advocacy is at the core of everything I do because I know what it feels like to lose yourself yet I also know the power of choosing to find yourself again!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Healing Roots Tribe is a heart-centered nonprofit dedicated to creating safe, soulful spaces for healing and community care.
We offer trauma-informed, holistic programs like Soulstice Kollective – A space not just single parents but for those also on a journey to reparent + reconnect with themselves. We also just held our first event for Soulstice Kollective: Field Day 4 Mental Health, which was to support + highlight men’s mental health.
HRT 4 Vets – A trauma-informed wellness initiative for veterans, offering mental health resources, creative outlets, and holistic care tailored to those who’ve served.
HRT 4 Kidz – Focused on emotional literacy, mindfulness, and creative expression, this program nurtures young minds with tools to self-regulate and thrive.
Hype Me Up (HMU) – A self-esteem and confidence-building platform offering love letters, affirmation sessions, and mirror work for women looking to rebrand themselves after trauma, incarceration, or poverty.
One of our newest expansions is Rooted + Roaming — a travel branch helping families, especially single parents, experience soul-nourishing, culturally rich adventures without losing their grounding. From curated retreats to custom itineraries, we’re redefining what healing in motion looks like.
We offer community wellness events, coaching, herbal goodies, and digital tools that meet people where they are.
What sets us apart is our intersection of healing and real life; we don’t just talk self-care, we embody it. Our work is trauma-informed, culturally rooted, and spiritually guided. We serve people who’ve been overlooked and under-supported for far too long.
I’m most proud that we’ve built a space where folks can feel seen and not judged nor rushed, just honor themselves in the present. Healing Roots Tribe is more than just a brand, it’s a reclamation; a return home.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson that I’ve learned is that healing isn’t linear and I don’t have to have it all together or figured out to be deemed worthy.
There was once upon a time that I thought I had to be “whole” to be helpful, that I needed to reach some final form before I could pour into others. But life, motherhood especially, taught me otherwise. Healing doesn’t happen in a straight line, it spirals, it circles back, unearths and gently blooms.
I’ve learned that in my mess, I’m medicine. That my children don’t need a perfect mother, they need a present, evolving one. That starting over isn’t failure, its sacred. It’s courage, it’s proof that my roots still remember how to rise.
I’ve learned that softness is strength. That it’s okay to rest and show yourself and situation some grace. That its okay to outgrow people, places and even versions of myself I once prayed for. I’ve learned to lean into faith and trust God.
But most of all, I’ve learned to mother myself first. To be the calm in my own storm. To hold space for my own softness and in doing that, I’ve become a mirror for others to do the same.
Healing doesn’t ask for perfection, just presence.
