Community Highlights: Meet Kristen Morrison of Full Bloom Speech Therapy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristen Morrison.

Hi Kristen, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I began college at the University of Florida with the idea that I wanted to head into the medical field and work with children, but I wasn’t exactly sure which area I wanted to pursue. I started out as a Nutrition major, and then I decided I wanted to continue school and earn a Master’s degree. I picked an elective at random, and that’s how I was introduced to Communication Sciences and Disorders! I was intrigued with my elective class in this field and began to do more research. A few months later, I was accepted into the Master of Arts program for Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Central Florida. I entered into a new chapter, working towards becoming a Speech-Language Pathologist.

I’ve worked in various environments, including home health, schools, and private clinics, seeing many children of different ages. I truly love getting to be a part of a family’s life, supporting them, and helping their little ones to communicate. As I entered motherhood, I gained a new perspective and a deeper love for my work. It is this passion that encouraged me to do something on my own. I created Full Bloom Speech Therapy with the intent of offering families a wholesome space for their children to blossom into confident communicators. My practice is committed to guiding each child toward their full potential and working closely with their families in the process.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have definitely been some struggles on this journey. I’ve felt burnt out at times and lacked motivation to be innovative with my patients. There’s an ebb and flow to it, and I’m always able to find my way back. Starting a business was not easy, but it’s helped me to remember why I love what I do and has made me a better clinician.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Full Bloom Speech Therapy is a pediatric private practice offering evaluations, treatment, and consistent correspondence with families to discuss progress and ensure personalized intervention plans.

We are dedicated to creating a supportive and wholesome environment for children to reach their full potential as communicators. Full Bloom focuses on at-home practice and parent education to increase children’s overall success. We also make therapy convenient, providing services in the home, at school, or online.

As a speech-language pathologist, I have over 10 years of experience with many different diagnoses including, Autism, Language disorders, Articulation disorders, Developmental delay, Apraxia, ADHD, and Down syndrome. I enjoy working with kids using a play-based, goal-oriented approach, and focusing on building strong foundations for effective communication and functional skills.

What’s next?
I have plans to open up a brick-and-mortar clinic for Full Bloom with different areas to support development and communication, such as a sensory gym and a calming/quiet room. I’m also interested in pursuing the area of lactation consulting and working with babies.
