Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Villalobos.
Hi Lauren, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was scrolling through the infamous app when I came across a video of a walking group in Tampa called Tampa Girls Who Walk and immediately thought, “Orlando needs that.” I commented on their video to see if anyone from Orlando was interested in a walking group, and so many reached out saying they were in! That morning, I brainstormed names and settled on the “Orlando Sole Sisters.” We quickly gained followers on Instagram and have been walking weekly for the past month! The community we are building is so welcoming and supportive! I’m thrilled many girls are coming out to get our steps in while making new friends! As we say, “Come for the walks and stay for the friendships!”
Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
The most challenging part of hosting a weekly walking group is finding safe, accessible walking trails. Thankfully, the ladies in the group are accommodating with giving me recommendations, so without them, we’d probably walk the same trail every week! Haha!
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Sometimes, you have to be forced outside of your comfort zone. I didn’t expect so many girls to be interested in this walking group, and the responsibility of hosting the walks came with that interest. I was responsible for creating a welcoming and safe environment and ensuring everyone felt like they belonged. Thankfully, this forced me to put myself out there, which I needed to do to grow! After a month of walks, friendships are forming, and our step goals are being met!
