Community Highlights: Meet Lora Abdelhack of The Cookie Parlor Co.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lora Abdelhack.

Lora, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
As a momma of four (ages seven and under!), I have always loved making their celebrations extra special. I found an outlet in achieving this goal through baking! My educational background is in event planning. I moved to Orlando, FL from New York City, where I worked and studied at Columbia University in the City of New York. But after having my first child, I knew there wasn’t anywhere I wanted to be but home with him.

I was born to be a mom and it fulfills my life like I never knew I needed. The high-energy, fast-paced lifestyle of NYC always burned inside me. So as a stay-at-home mom, the art of baking allowed me to be creative while still being able to serve as that momma I love to be. I bought a bunch of supplies, watched a ton of videos, and just tried a variety of things-from fondant layered cakes to cookies and just fell in love with all things cookies! I learn more and more with each set and just love the amazing ideas clients come to me with for their events. It’s such a special feeling to know I can be part of their celebrations!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I wouldn’t say it has been smooth but it has been a ride! I started out working late nights and making so many mistakes that I almost decided it wasn’t a good fit. With the support of my amazing husband, I found my footing and don’t have that overwhelming feeling anymore. He’s a businessman and has been so supportive and knowledgeable about the right ways to grow my business while still keeping a strong balance on other aspects of my life.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
When most people hear that I make cookies, their initial impression is a batch of cookies like you’d see on a Pillsbury box. What actually goes into making custom cookies is so much more than that. When I receive an order, I do my very best to learn my client’s vision and all about their event so I can make it the very most personalized set I can possibly create. I am a perfectionist in my design work and hope that is articulated through the outcome of my orders. The Cookie Parlor Co. brand is so important to me as a small business owner, and I am extremely proud of where I have gotten in my skill level. I love when clients challenge me to do better and it makes me stronger as a cookie artist! What I strive to have that sets me apart is that precision to detail and extra step I go to fulfill those creative visions.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Every client experience is custom- from pricing to design and artistry. No two sets are ever identical. They are truly made to order.
