Today we’d like to introduce you to Luisa Irizarry.
Luisa, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born in Colombia and moved to the United States when I was 12 years old. My father had come here seven years earlier and worked incredibly hard to bring our family here legally. Watching both of my parents sacrifice, persevere, and overcome challenges taught me one of the most important lessons of my life: no matter how big or small the task is, always give it your absolute best.
My father used to tell me, “Whatever you touch will leave your signature on it, so make sure you do it well.” That mindset has shaped every stage of my career and is one of the main reasons I’ve consistently earned promotions and leadership opportunities throughout my professional journey.
After high school, I initially pursued psychology in college, but I quickly realized my strengths were not in math and science. I’ve always been highly creative and people-oriented. Around that time, I became involved in the fitness industry and was selected as a Brand Ambassador for Bang Energy. That opportunity allowed me to travel across the country working major fitness expos and events while representing one of the fastest-growing beverage brands at the time.
As I gained experience, I was promoted multiple times, eventually becoming a Field Marketing Specialist overseeing two of the company’s largest markets: Orlando and Tampa. While I enjoyed representing the brand, what fascinated me most was the behind-the-scenes production of large-scale expos, festivals, and experiential events. Watching those events come to life felt like watching a blank canvas transform into something unforgettable, and that’s where I discovered my passion for event production.
When Bang Energy ultimately filed for bankruptcy, I had to pivot. I accepted a role with an aviation and engineering firm in Orlando as a Marketing Proposal Specialist, where I coordinated, designed, and developed responses to state, private, and federal RFPs. Although the work itself wasn’t my passion, I noticed opportunities to improve the company’s event processes and took the initiative to create a company-wide Events Standard Operating Procedure. That SOP was approved by the president and marketing director and successfully implemented across the organization. That experience reinforced my belief that leadership is not always tied to a title — sometimes it’s about seeing a need, stepping up, and creating a solution.
A short time later, an opportunity opened up for an Event Manager position with Orlando Weekly, a publication and media company that produces some of the largest festivals and community events in Central Florida, attracting thousands of attendees each year. I applied, got the job, and truly loved it because it aligned with my passion for events, production, creativity, and community experiences. Unfortunately, I was later laid off due to company budget cuts.
That night became one of the greatest turning points of my life. After being laid off, God gave me two dreams. In those dreams, I felt He was showing me that I was about to walk into a very uncomfortable season, but that if I remained faithful and obedient, He would bless me far beyond what I could imagine. I also felt strongly that I was not supposed to apply for another full-time job, but instead take a leap of faith and open my own event planning and production company.
With my husband’s support and encouragement, we launched Dreamscape Creations. What started as a scary and uncertain step quickly became one of the biggest blessings of my life. Shortly after opening the business, the same company that laid me off contracted our company to produce their yearly events. From there, more opportunities began to open, and Dreamscape Creations continued to grow through referrals, reputation, and God’s favor.
Today, Dreamscape Creations has become one of the top-ranked event planning companies in the Orlando and St. Cloud area, with consistent 5-star reviews and a reputation that speaks for itself. We have been able to grow organically without relying on paid ads, which I’m extremely grateful for.
What makes our company unique is that although we specialize in weddings, we also produce large-scale festivals and community events. So we bring the best of both worlds: the elegance, detail, and emotion of weddings combined with the logistics, creativity, and production experience of large-scale events.
As a former aerial artist and performer, creativity is a huge part of who I am. I love bringing concepts to life that go beyond what people typically expect. My goal is for people to taste, feel, smell, and experience our events in a way that captivates all their senses and creates memories they will never forget.
Right now, we are incredibly thankful for where God has brought us, but we also believe this is only the beginning. Our vision is to expand into new markets, including Miami, Tampa, Dallas, New York, and Los Angeles. We also dream of opening a headquarters, creating amazing job opportunities, building a company culture where employees feel valued and blessed, and continuing to serve every client with excellence.
At the heart of everything I do is the lesson my parents taught me: work hard, go above and beyond, and make sure whatever you touch carries a signature of excellence. All glory to God.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it has not been a smooth road. It has been incredibly hard, humbling, and stretching in every way.
When you start a business, especially in the event industry, you quickly realize that you are not just doing the creative work. My husband and I have had to become every department at once: marketing, accounting, sales, social media, operations, production, client relations, vendor management, and event execution.
There are months that are extremely busy and exciting, and then there are slower seasons that make you question everything. Building a company from the ground up requires a level of faith, resilience, and consistency that you do not fully understand until you are in it.
Another challenge has been entering an industry where there are already established event companies that have been operating for 20 years or more. We knew we had to work twice as hard to prove ourselves, earn trust, build our reputation, and show that although we were newer as a company, we had the experience, creativity, professionalism, and production knowledge to deliver at a high level.
In the beginning, that meant investing a lot of unpaid time, working long 13-plus hour days, showing up with excellence even when no one was watching, and constantly choosing faith over fear. There were moments when I knew I could easily go back and get a great full-time job with a stable salary, but we truly felt called to build this company, so we held on to our faith and to the promises God had given us.
The road has not been easy, but it has refined us. It has taught us discipline, humility, patience, and how to lead under pressure. Every challenge has helped shape Dreamscape Creations into the company it is becoming today.
