Today we’d like to introduce you to Margie Santos.
Hi Margie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Growing up with a severe speech impediment was very difficult It was hard to complete a sentence and I was teased and bullied as a kid, and since I couldn’t talk, I began writing. Writing became my escape from the world and it was reflected in my schoolwork I was praised by all the teachers and eventually my classmates. I learned to take a bad situation and turn it into something good. As I graduated high school and needed a job, I took my writing skills and put together a resume, which landed me a great job. HR praised my resume and encouraged me to help others with theirs. I took her advice and volunteered my time to the community for 15 years helping others with resumes in my spare time. I never thought about getting paid I just wanted to see people grow and succeed. Well in 2016 my pastor asked me how much are my resumes, and I told him there was no charge. He was not happy about that, he reminded me that I was a single mom and advised me to register this and start charging for my work and time. He reminded me of the bible verse: 1 Timothy 5:18 — New Living Translation (NLT)18 For the Scripture says, “You must not muzzle an ox to keep it from eating as it treads out the grain.” And in another place, “Those who work deserve their pay!” So, I registered my resume business and in doing so I began to search for other businesses to connect and network with. As a faith-based business, I didn’t find any events that I was comfortable in, they are seen to be non-faith based and that’s when the idea was born for my second business Synergy Network Worldwide. Synergy was Est. in 2016 providing faith-based networking events and services for the community in the NY/NJ area, and currently in the Florida area. We have many platforms for our clients to promote including a weekly newsletter, quarterly magazine, Eblasts, our online Live show, The Synergy Network Talk Show, and more.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When you are a business owner it’s never a smooth road, it’s always a learning curve especially when you don’t have a formal education. I got married young and had kids in my twenties so I didn’t get an opportunity to go to college and get my degree, so the challenge has been learning as I go. Some went to college and then opened a business; my path was the opposite. I started the business and educated myself every day along the way, it’s not easy but very rewarding because I love what I do. I just want to encourage someone out there to never let that hold you back from your goals or dreams. Keep believing in yourself, work hard and you will see results!

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
The main quality is really caring about the client, clients can tell if you are in it for money or if you genuinely care to help them grow. People come first in all things, especially as faith-based, we want to show them the trust and quality they are looking for. I’m so glad that they get to meet us and see us at the events, and see for themselves who and what we represent.
