Community Highlights: Meet Melina Fuenmayor of The Closing Signing Service

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melina Fuenmayor.

Hi Melina, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My name is Melina Fuenmayor. I began my business as a Notary Signing Agent two years ago, in June 2019. I started part-time, and three months later, I decided to quit my job and become a full-time signing agent. In my first month, I only did five closings, but a few months later, I was doing hundreds of closings a month. As of today, I have performed thousands of closings. A year after my journey began, I decided to start my own signing service agency. We connect title companies with notary signing agents nationwide. We receive the orders from our clients, and we assign them to a notary in that specific area, making sure they follow all the instructions given by the title company.

While running the signing service, I was surprised about two things: First, how difficult it was for some notaries to get started, and second, the mistakes that certified and trained notaries were making. That is why I decided to launch Notary Business Guidance, which is a special program for certified and trained notary signing agents without experience. In the training, I teach how to get started in the business, which is the most difficult part. I share all the secrets and tips involved in the industry. I explain what the different sources of business are, how a signing service works, and how to stand out from the rest of the notaries in their area. I give them tips before starting the business, tips before a signing, during a signing, and after the signing. In the training, we also go through a loan package. I tell the participants how I explain the loan documents, what are the mistakes they need to avoid making, how to execute a signing with a Power of Attorney, and in general, some tips that I provide as a signing service owner. The training is a live session that lasts for about 4 or 5 hours, the participants get answers to all the questions they have.

So, basically, I’m running three businesses. I’m still doing closings; I enjoy meeting with the signers and get the real estate documents executed. I’m running the signing service, which is demanding and stressful, and I’m teaching new notaries how to become a better loan signing agents. My goal is to train as many notaries as possible so the work at the signing service becomes easier.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road at all, being a Notary Signing Agent, a Signing Service owner, and a Notary Trainer has been challenging. First of all, I am an immigrant, I moved to this country three years and a half ago from Latin America. So, I must deal with cultural and language barriers. Second, the stress, long working hours, long driving, rejection, car accidents, traffic tickets, dangerous situations, inclement weather, demanding clients, difficult signers, and especially the Covid 19 situation.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about The Closing Signing Service?
The Closing Signing Service is a Notary Agency. We are the middleman between the title company and the notary. Title companies need notaries everywhere to close their real estate transactions, so instead of looking at them by themselves, they hire us so we can locate their notaries anywhere in the U.S, we simplify their lives. My signing service is unique and different. First, because I’m a Notary Signing Agent myself, I know what our notaries go through on a daily basis. I care for them, I support them, I’m fair to them and I train them. They know they can count on me. They know I will always be there to help them with my signings or even signings from other companies. Second, I am personally involved in daily tasks. I’m the face of my company, I’m reachable, and I’m on top of everything. I’m proud of the trust that clients have in us. I want your readers to know that we will do whatever it takes to get the job done in the best possible way. The Closing Signing Service is a nationwide signing service that hires certified notaries, that take last-minute appointments, that has reasonable fees, can do Remote Online Notarization and carries an Error & Omissions Insurance Policy of $1,000,000.

Any big plans?
I’m planning on expanding my business to other territories. Even though I have clients from other states, most of the title companies I’m working with now are from Florida. I want other title companies’ owners to live “The Closing Signing Service Experience”. I’m also eager to grow the team, so it won’t be a small business family anymore.
