Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Tozier.
Hi Melissa, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I always wanted to work for myself doing something that I loved so I gave photography a shot. I started my photography business thirteen years ago. When I first started out I did engagements and family portraits, which led to weddings and maternity sessions. And that is what led me to newborn photography. After doing a client’s engagement, wedding, and then maternity session, they asked if I would capture their baby’s first moments. I almost said “no” because I had no experience photographing newborns. I found my passion and never looked back. Little did I know that I would end up specializing in baby photography.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The hardest part was believing in myself and taking the chance to pursue my dream and that took stepping out of my comfort zone. My business taught me to never give up on myself. Now, I am so thankful that I hung in there and took that risk.

I specialize in newborn photography. I offer sessions in the comfort of my clients’ homes. I bring my studio to them. I am most proud that my clients not only love their portraits but love the experience. Having a newborn is a joyous time but it can also be a stressful time for new parents. My clients know that I offer years of experience getting those adorable portraits safely and patiently.

I am so thankful to all of my clients. Their kind words and referrals paved the way for my business to succeed. Referrals are the best compliment a small business can get.
