Today we’d like to introduce you to Ney Milá.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m Ney Milá, owner and lead photographer of Ney Milá Studio. I was born in Cuba and raised in Spain, and I’m now based in Orlando, Florida.
My journey with photography began early — my father is also a photographer, so I grew up surrounded by cameras and prints. I believe one of the first photos I ever took was a portrait of my parents when I was five years old.
I began pursuing photography seriously at 18. For over a decade, I worked in fine art and fashion photography, which gave me a strong foundation in visual storytelling, composition, and editorial aesthetics. My work has been featured in The Washington Post, PhotoVogue, Flanelle, and others, and I’ve exhibited in galleries and festivals across Europe, the U.S., and Thailand. I’ve also been fortunate to receive international recognition, including being a finalist and winner in competitions like Photo Lucida’s Critical Mass and Encontros da Imagem — early milestones that encouraged me to keep going.
In 2020, I spent a year back in Spain to reconnect with my roots and study Documentary and Fine Art Photography at IDEP Barcelona. When I returned to the U.S., I made the decision to build something of my own.
That’s when I shifted into wedding photography as a natural evolution. Over the years, I had watched wedding photography transform. The lines between fashion, documentary, and fine art began to blur in a way that deeply resonated with me. I realized I could bring my background into this space and create something meaningful for couples — work rooted in creativity, story, and legacy.
My style is light, organic, and a little nostalgic. I also shoot film, which adds a layer of texture and timelessness that many of my couples love.
Right now, I’m in the middle of an exciting transition — rebranding from Vivid Vision Events to Ney Milá Studio. Looking ahead, I’m focusing more on destination weddings and continuing to tell stories while learning from other cultures.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not a smooth road but I think that’s part of what’s made this journey so meaningful. Like many artists, I’ve dealt with a lot of uncertainty and self-doubt, especially in the early years. When you’re building something creative from the ground up, there’s no clear path, just a lot of trial, error, and trust in your own vision.
One of the biggest turning points came when I decided to move back to Spain in 2020. I thought I was just going there to study, but it ended up being a full year of growth and reflection. Studying Documentary and Fine Art Photography there helped me reconnect with why I fell in love with photography in the first place. But leaving that comfort to return to the U.S. and start a business from scratch was scary. I had to learn how to turn my passion into something sustainable — not just artistically, but financially and logistically.
One of the biggest challenges in finding my voice has been on social media. I didn’t want to sound like the overly romantic, high-energy persona that’s become so common in the wedding space. It started to feel like 90% of photographers were using the same captions, the same tone — and none of it felt like me. I’ve started to find a voice that feels more grounded, creative, and honest, but I’m still figuring it out. I want to show up with intention, in a way that reflects who I am. It’s an ongoing process, but learning to trust my tone and resist the pressure to perform has already made a big difference in connecting with the right couples.
Another area that’s been challenging is learning the business side of things. As a photographer, it’s easy to think that creating great images is the most important part, and while it is essential, it’s only one piece of the puzzle. Understanding pricing, contracts, marketing, client communication, and all the backend systems that keep things running smoothly didn’t come naturally to me. I’ve had to teach myself and invest a lot of money in courses and mentorships along the way, and there were definitely moments where I felt overwhelmed or unsure of how to move forward. But with each mistake and lesson, I’ve been building a stronger foundation — one that allows me to operate like a real business and provide a premium experience for my clients from beginning to end.
There have been setbacks including technical failures, rejections, a lot of ghosting and burnout — but those moments taught me resilience and forced me to grow and become more professional. Every struggle shaped the way I work today: with intention, patience, and a deep respect for the people I photograph.
As you know, we’re big fans of Ney Milá Studios. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Hey there I am Ney! If you are here, it is because you care about the way your story is told. From the first consultation to the final image delivery, I offer a calm and creative presence. My goal is to help you feel safe, inspired, and effortlessly at ease in front of the camera. Whether it’s helping you pose with confidence or stepping back to document a quiet moment, I know when to lead and when to observe. You can trust that your wedding day will flow smoothly, and your photos will feel both elevated and true to you.
I approach weddings not just as a photographer, but as an artist and storyteller — with an eye trained in beauty, subtlety, and emotion. My couples are seeking more than generic photos or posed moments. They’re looking for something intentional and deeply personal — an experience where they feel truly seen and understood.
With over a decade of experience in fashion and fine art photography, I bring a refined, editorial eye to weddings — while staying grounded in what matters most: connection, story, and legacy.
These photographs will be the kind of memories revisited for decades, the kind that live on long after the last dance. Quiet, Powerful. Unforgettable.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Most people who know me through weddings have no idea that I also work on a long-term fine art project that involves tree rings and sound. I’ve been researching dendrochronology—the science of reading tree rings, and using that data to create visual and musical interpretations of memory, land, and time. As part of this project, I’ve collaborated with a lab in Barcelona that specializes in tree-ring analysis, granting me access to their equipment and decades of environmental data. It’s a very different side of my practice.
Another thing people don’t expect is that I’m actually quite introverted. You’d think that working in weddings means being super extroverted all the time—but what helps me connect with people is the fact that I listen more than I speak. My quietness has become one of my biggest strengths as a photographer.
