Hi Queenbossbraids, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
It all started in West Palm Beach Fl, I was a 15 year old sophomore just looking to make some extra cash on the side. I started off taking friends from school. My parents were extremely supportive from day one, allowing me to take clients in their home. I honestly specialized in mens hair in the beginning, as I knew nothing about styling women. Once I started to receive.a little cash, I focused all my energy into mastering braids. I am 1005 self taught. I would spend hours watching youtube videos. I did these famous twins in my city known as the “Montes Twins”, from there, my small business blew up. Everyone in my city wanted me to do their hair, I closed out my moms porch and turned into my mini studio in 2020. I was 17 at the time. Braiding had already paid for my first car a 2010 Nissan in cash and completely close the outside porch. I worked out of my mini salon for my entire senior year of high school. I maintained extremely good grades while working and had earned a full ride to any college in florida by the time I graduated. I chose UCF, the distance was perfect from my home town and the opportunity I saw for my business was insane. Everyone thought I was crazy for leaving what I had built. I got to Orlando in August of 2021, a freshman in college just looking to make her dreams a reality. I had to rebuild my clientele from scratch. I also decided to pursue my degree in accounting. My entrepreneurial spirit felt this was the right choice for the ath I was headed in. My ambition was honestly like no other, I was determined to become the best stylist in the city. I took to social media to find creative ways to market myself . I became obsessed with success. I rented out a chair at a shop right next to school and was grinding.. About 3 months in Orlando, my content and clientele was booming. Not only was I a skilled braider but I really knew how to make viral content. I used this skill to my advantage and had negotiated a contract at the shop to not even pay any booth rent. With little to no expenses as a full time college student i was able to stack my money and reinvest. I grew my platform exponentially across all social media platforms. Posting every single day, studying for my exams, and managing the content of an entire beauty bar with a total of 15 girls. I did this for 2 years consistently. About. a year before college graduation I knew I was ready for my own salon suite. I took the leap of faith and business has been booming ever since. At the age of 21, my calendar opens and closes within the hour that I post any availability for clients to book. I just purchased my very first home and I’m happier than ever. Time management and discipline have allowed me to get to where I am today. Trusting in God and his plan for my life have gotten me where I am today. I’m extremely thankful for my upbringing. I tell my parents all the time how grateful I am to have them. For I know, without that foundation instilled in me, I would not be where I am today.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No entrepreneurial road is ever smooth, you will struggle. I experienced burnout at a really young age. While my content never reflected this, the amount of work I was putting in was just overwhelming. I was failing exams in school and focusing too much on the party life. I struggled to regain focus. I was also traveling back and forth to West Palm Beach a lot to service some of my old clients. February of 2022 I got into a horrible car accident. i was the only one in the car and I had dozed off behind the wheel. My car flipped a total of 3 times and was completely totaled. In that moment, everything was put into perspective. I walked out of the car with nothing but a scratch on my knee. I remember questioning why wasn’t I dead, I had also recently has 2 close friends of mine pass away. Why them and not me? I really honed in spiritually to talk to God. I was tired and angry. He reassured me that It wasn’t my time. He told me I have goals I need to accomplish and in order to get to these goals that I needed to put myself first. It is extremely difficult to do as a stylist, you always are trying to accommodate and be there for your clients. But, how can you show up for your clients if you are not showing up for yourself? My life changed after that car accident. That switch allowed me to lock in. No more parties, unnecessary alcohol consumption and much more. I wanted the best for my business so I needed to start showing up as the best version of myself.

What are your plans for the future?
My plans for the future are expansion. I want to open up as many passive and profitable businesses as possible. I also don’t want to limit myself to just the beauty industry. WIth the community I have created online, I know that I am able to really tackle anything I put my mind to. Currently just organizing and creating my 5 year plan. I am also looking forward to closing on my first home at the end of this year! Just feeling so excited and so blessed to be in this position at such a young age. All Glory To God.
