Community Highlights: Meet Robert Herrington of Smash Brothers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert Herrington

Hi Robert , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
my dad has been a chef his whole life when I was 25 I got sentenced to nine years in prison during that nine years I dreamed von well business it’s always been a dream on my dad as well. I got in a car accident. I got a small settlement and approached my dad to see if he wanted to open the food truck. He did so help me. This is a dream come true for us for me to reach out to the younger generation and share my experiences.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
it is not been a smooth road. I was denied a lot of things because of my criminal record, including apartments to live in so once again my dad helped with all that after opening, we ran the hood into something I left the window open and and it h a pole a flew off I broke my finger Trying to start the generator on our soft open so under grand opening day, I was stuck helpless with a broken finger..

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Smash Brothers?
I started this business as a Convicted felon. For two years before I was denied basic jobs and apartments every time I would get a job my probation officer would have to call. Tell them my charges and make me sound like a bad guy.. What’ sets us apart is the fact that i dreamed for this everyday for 9 years. my dads wanted this his whole life! I want my readers to know that no matter what their past or their present situation that I did it you can too! I want to provide jobs for The local youth where they can come make money, learn life skills, get guidance and being a safe environment. i want to make my parents proud after so many years of disappointing and i want to be able to say that i prevented a family from going thru what mine went through! i want to prove to people im more than just a convicted felon

What was your favorite childhood memory?
going to work with my dad or all the acf events! I wanted to be just like him!!!
